  • Harmony was at one time the production king of American instruments, and during its heyday it accounted for over half the guitars built in this country each year.Harmony also made mandolins, ukuleles, and banjos, among other instruments, and by 1923 its annual production capacity was 250,000 instruments. In 1939, Harmony bought several brand names from the bankrupt Oscar Schmidt Company including La Scala, Stella and Sovereign; the latter two brand names were used on many of Harmonys most popular guitars. During this period Harmony substantially increased its trade names to include Valencia, Monterey, Harmony Deluxe, Johnny Marvin, Vogue, and many more.In the 50s and 60s Harmony instruments could be seen in the hands of legends including Keith Richards, Pete Townshend, Elvis Presley, The

Spencer Davis group, and the Small Faces to name a few. Then as imported instruments began taking a larger share of the American market, Harmony could no longer compete. Harmony ceased production in 1972.Today, Harmony Guitars is owned by the Westheimer Corporation. 2011 sees the debut of the new Harmony Vintage Reissue line, a series of meticulous recreations from the 1950s and 60s, including the Rocket, Jupiter Stratotone, and the H-22 electric bass. These reissues capture the vintage vibe while offering players higher quality instruments than the originals: improved finishes, top quality hardware, and more comfortable neck dimensions. The Harmony name has always meant value and these new offerings continue that tradition. Try one and you will see!
