B U T T O N U P

Woman’s garments has the buttons on the left while they are on the right side for the gents. This gender difference became a standard since 1850’s. Why is that?

It is hard to say for sure and there are probably more reasons than one. Here comes a few theories.

The main reason for men is probably comfort. It is easier for a right handed man to button his garments. Also; the same fellow can reach in under the coat and access his weapon, just a little bit swifter. Sometimes that is important.

To make the garments different, the ladies had to – once more – yield and give men the more comfortable alternative. In addition, when riding a horse the ladies in general, sat with the legs to the right, and left side buttoning

avoided the wind blowing into their dresses. There are many other theories, which involve Napoleon, maid servants, breast feeding and simply patriarchal malice. Either way.

The result is the same. Women have to use the left hand to button a shirt.

Is this shirt a Jupiter or Jupiter Lady?

Correct! It is of course a Jupiter Lady.

When I was young, the summers lasted forever. Riding around on my bike with tanned, scraped up legs on my way to the

local swimming pond. Endless summers with constant sunshine. I honestly don’t remember there being many rainy days. Except

that one time, when we where camping in Norway and it rained the whole time. But. That rain made the trip into an Adventure. I loved it. Going to our summer house in the worst snowstorm ever, together with my father. We had to do or check something so the water pipes wouldn’t freeze. On the way we had to leave the car behind and walk a long hike through snow up to my armpits. It was cold and the wind made the snow tear at my face, and I felt like we where going to the Antarctic. Once we arrived we started a fire and made some hot chocolate to get warm again. Just me and my dad.

Objects in the rear view mirror may appear brighter than they were. Well designed items however, will stand the test of time and define class and true style. They do not need the rose tinted glasses.

In the brand James Harvest Sportswear we have a tradition of looking backwards as well as forwards. We look at the past to find the iconic garments that fit the contemporary. We constantly gaze into the future to find the materials and styles of tomorrow.

The T-shirt originates from undergarments issued by the U.S. Navy during the Spanish war of 1898. As the garment was rather inexpensive and kept you cool it quickly became a popular workshirt in heated, and unclean work environments such as agriculture, mining and so on. The T-shirt became the fashionable icon of today with Marlon Brando in »A Streetcar Named Desire« in the 1950s. Enjoy our American T-shirt.

We all get the blues. The word »denim« comes from the French »serge de Nîmes« (silk from Nîmes). The southern French town where much of the indigo colored textiles were woven in the later half of nineteenth century. The thin denim shirt Jupiter, cable knitted sweater Treadville and the quilted jacket Huntingview are perfect together.

The origin of the cable knitted sweater was a rugged fishermen garment. The knit is both decorative and makes the garment more insulating. Different clans used their variation of the pattern. When knitted from untreated wool (with preserved natural oils) the sweater was almost water resistant.

The iconic sweater was however adopted by the preppy Ivy League gentlemen where wool was switched for the cooler cotton. Our Treadville sweater is a one of the Ivy League style sweaters.
