“Everything is Spiritual” by Rob Bell
In the Hebrew scriptures there is no word
for “spiritual.” And Jesus never used the phrase
“spiritual life.” Because for Jesus and his
tradition, all of life is spiritual. So what does that mean?

“The Case for Christ” by Lee Strobel
Based on the best-selling book by the same
name, a seasoned journalist chases down the
biggest story in history.
The Project: Determine if there's credible
evidence that Jesus of Nazareth really is the Son
of God. The Reporter: Lee Strobel, award-winning former
legal editor of the Chicago Tribune-with a background of
atheism. The Experts: A dozen scholars. The Story: This
remarkable documentary is like reading a captivating,
fast-paced novel. But it's not fiction. It's a riveting quest for
the truth about history's most compelling figure. What will
your verdict be in The Case for Christ?

Worship Schedule
for August 2017
August 6
Worship: Communion Sunday Scriptures: Isaiah 55:1-5; Psalm 145:8-9, 14-21; Romans 9:1-5; Matthew 14:13-21 Sermon: “Struggle”
We begin a monthly series on the themes found in the OT books of Genesis and Exodus. Jacob’s life has fluctuated between contentment and struggle, and most likely everything in-between. In this strange story in which Jacob wrestles with God, we see the tenacity with which he holds on to God, and God continuing to keep covenant with Abraham’s descendants.
Ushers: Joe and Sharon McIntyre Coffee fellowship: Jill Green
August 13
Worship: 10th Sunday of Pentecost Scriptures: 1 Kings 19:9-18; Psalm 85:8-13; Romans 10:5-15; Matthew 14:22-33 Sermon: “Jealousy”
Genesis 37 is the beginning of the story of how the people of Israel end up as slaves in Egypt before the Exodus and their journey into the Promised Land. Here is a story of family jealousy and deceit. The narrative is remembered in today’s Psalm as the writer highlights the hardship that Joseph endured before he became the salvation of the people of Israel.

August 27
Worship: 12th Sunday of Pentecost Scriptures: Isaiah 51:1-6; Psalm 138; Romans 12:1-8; Matthew 16:13-20
Sermon: “Defiance” The salvation history of the people of Israel is a long and perilous journey with many people playing key roles. Today’s narrative of salvation comes through defiance, which in the case comes from compassion, the need to act for justice, and the understanding that God defies societal conditions and restrictions that dictate who is or isn’t worthy of salvation.
August 20
Worship: 11th Sunday of Pentecost Scriptures: Isaiah 56:1, 6-8; Psalm 67; Romans 11:1-2a, 29-32; Matthew 15: (10-20) 21-38
Sermon: “Reconcile” Today’s title could have been “forgiveness,” but we don’t actually hear Joseph say he forgives his brothers. What he says is that they should not be “distressed or angry with themselves” for God had sent Joseph into Egypt to preserve the people of Israel. Jacob’s family, which was torn apart by jealousy, is restored and Israel is saved.

“He’s Still Got the Whole World in His Hands”
By Andy Stanley
How do we remain hopeful in a world that seems to be
hopelessly broken? How do we continue to trust a
God that seems to be conspicuously absent?
How do we maintain peace when the world around us is spinning
out of control? If you've ever asked questions like these, you're
not alone, and you're not the first. The Bible is filled with stories
of men and women who asked similar questions. Why? Because
uncertainty is nothing new. The uncertainty we face today is no
different than the uncertainty faced by the men and women of the
Bible whose stories have inspired us for generations. Chances
are, your favorite Bible stories involve people whose
circumstances left them questioning God's faithfulness. His
presence. His concern. But in time, these men and women
experienced God's faithfulness. In the end, they, like us, were
reminded that . . . He's Still Got the Whole World in His Hands

BASEMENT SALE On July 7 & 8, we had a basement garage sale during the Haskins Community Garage Sales. We collected more than we thought and we did well by selling the items for donation only. We made $900.00 and really appreciate our customers. This included a bake sale that included cookies, brownies, and puppy chow to sell. They went fast! We also sold bottled water. The proceeds from this sale will go towards Mission trips. I personally want to thank Joe McIntyre, Betty Williams, Gerry Heckler for all they did and Jamison Moon for selling the baked items. It takes may hands to do light work and our efforts gained more funds for the trips. Linda Herman Note: Special thanks to Linda for her tireless efforts in organizing and working the church sale!

Haskins Community Church,
Thank you for supporting me in my trip out here to Colorado! It’s
truly a beautiful place! I love waking up and being in the mountains
but don’t like being away from my family so much. This week God
has been revealing the lies I have believed about myself and He’s
been replacing the lies with truth from his word.
Thanks Again!
Blessings,
Katelyn Lang
