were the boat ramp began at the end of the parking lot. It slipped bit by bit down the ramp and into the water.

The Marina's MotelVillage Marina Hotel was undermined when Willis' boat ramp was washed out behind the

building.

Along the beachThese houses used to have dunes to protect them from the ocean. 'no more'

A lonely dune, all that remains.This picture is in the opposite direction, looking south. It shows how the beach was stripped of all the

protection except this dune which stands alone...

Durant StationThis is one of the small motels that was taken off its foundation and moved about 100 yards into Hwy

12.

Another sectionThis is another piece of the Durant Motel.

And one moreAll 3 of the last pictures shows Durant Station Motel, these are 3 separate buildings in 3 different

locations. This one is in the middle of the road, while another piece was moved almost 500 yards to the West.

The CabanasNo longer a shelter at the beach. Many Cabana units no longer exist. Only little stubs poking out of

the sand showing were they used to be.

Pelican RoostAll the bait and tackle from this shop is now in the sound as well as the other supplies this

store sold. Warning don't walk barefoot in the sound near here...

Entrance into Hatteras EstatesThis house didn't stand a chance. The water is said to be 8 feet deep under the house.

A new inletMaybe I should say old inlet. Before there was a road here there was a bridge. In the storm of 1933

the bridge that stood here was wiped out and a road was built in its place.

A closer lookStanding at the end of the road looking north towards Frisco is this breach, the new inlet. The

question is, how will the transportation department solve this one???

RodantheThis is Hwy 12 looking north where Rodanthe and Pea Island meet. For surfers it is known as the

“S turn”.

Clearing the roadRe-entry to the island was open Sunday 9-21-03 due to the hard work of crews like this one up in

Rodanthe.
