MICHIANA-BRAZIL CHRISTIAN MISSION Equipping Christians to serve Christ. -Eph 4:12 Missionaries Michael & Debbie Haubner Field Address: Caixa Postal 821 Goiania, Goias 74.001-970 Brazil, S.A. Mission Treasurer Eugene Thomas 530 LaSaile Street Portage, Ml 49002 Ph: (616) 327-2571 May/June, 1995 Dear Friends and Supporters: "I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." (Phil. 1:3-6) As you go into a hot, hot summer in the USA, we will be experiencing our winter and our dry season in Brazil. The weather has already started to turn colder. Temperatures in the southern part of Brazil (colder than the central section where we live) have already dropped to six degrees Celsius. It may seem like a mild winter to you, but to Brazilians it is very, very cold! Most are not prepared for colder temps; they have not the clothes or the homes to weatherthe cold. We had been experiencing dry weatherfor about a month and a half up until a couple of nights ago when it rained for about 30 minutes. This was highly unusual for this time of year! The dry season has its advantages in that we will be able to do some workat the camp. This work includes: A soccer field, fixing of a major leak in the dam, and the construction of a new road for the entrance of the camp. The camp, "Acampamento Shalom," is located in Goianira, a small farming town about 45 miles from Goiania. Most of the roads there are unpaved, thus making some projects difficult during the rainy season. Because of vacation time from school during the month of July, we will be organizing many camps for different age groups. The economy is remaining about the same, with a low dollar($0.90 to one Brazilian "real") and somewhat stable prices. Most people are buying only the necessary, as we are doing. Food prices are basically stable, as are utilities. Land and rent prices have soared with the new money system. Please be in prayerfor the people and the government of Brazil, that they might resolve this difficult situation in the near future. The sluggish economy has forced us to virtually stop construction of the Novo Horizonte Church. We had hoped to have the building completed by the end of the year. The building lacks some structural work and all of the finishing work. Please pray that God will provide the funds to complete the building. Since the last report in April the Vila Boa Churchhas had twenty-five baptisms, the Goianira church has had fifteen baptisms and is getting ready to baptize twenty more people. The Novo Horizonte Church is getting ready to baptize ten people. The Novo Horizonte Church has been having special studies all year long as a part of a Sunday School campaign to promote Bible literacy. Sermons, Sunday school lessons, scripture memorization and Bible quiz time all revolve around theme books for a one-month period. This has been very helpful in encouraging members to read and study the bible. Once again we would thank you for all your prayers and support. In Christ, Michael, Debbie and Andrea

    CHRISTIAN MISSION

    ^ Equipping Christiansto serve Christ.

    -Eph 4:12Missionaries

    Michael & Debbie Haubner July/August, 1995

    Dear Friendsi

"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, willguard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Phil. 4:17

Many exciting things continue to happen here in Brazil becauseof your partnership with us.

In August we had a visit from Geraldo, the preacher of the newwork in the Amazon. He reported that the church is runningabout one-hundred on Sunday nights. The work is going well andhe is pleased with the growth. In his report he also mentionedthat the cost of living in Manaus is twice that of Goiania! This is because Manaus is so far from "civilization", thuseverything must be shipped or flown in to the city. Fruits andvegetables are very difficult to grow in the region thus makingfood prices very expensive because it too has to be shipped orflown to the residents of the city. Geraldo asked us to be inprayer for property on which to build. The church is currentlyusing a one-room rented store front. The cost of land would bebetween $10,000 - $15,000.

Michael was the main speaker for a group of about 75 youngteens at the Acampamento (Camp) Shalom in Goianira. The themeof the week was "Seeking Righteousness". We had a very goodweekend with many kids rededicating their lives to Christ andHis Kingdom.

Good news from the Church at Novo Horizonte! The construction

has started again! We had temporarily stopped the constructionbecause of a lack of funds. The finishing of the building isanticipated around the end of the year, if donations continue! This will be a great milestone in the history of the Church atNovo Horizonte as the members have waited for years for thecompletion of a new building with ample space.

Ten people from the Novo Horizonte Church were baptized intoChrist in July. The baptisms were held at the Vila Boa Churchas Novo Horizonte has no baptistery at present.

September will mark the Second Annual Missions Month at theNovo Horizonte Church. Last years rally met with much success. There are presently three young adults considering the missionfield! Please be in prayer for this year's campaign. We willbe having many missionaries and mission organizations coming tospeak. We will finish the month with an international dinner.

Please be in prayer: - Health for the Haubner family- More interest in the camp from the

    nationals

    - New work in the Amazon

    - Completion of construction of NovoHorizonte Church

Thank you for your prayers and support! You are an importantpart our ministry in Brazil!

    In Christ,

    Michael, Debbie , and Andrea
