Ministry to the Homebound, Sick & Elderly

Our Liturgy and celebration of the Eucharist continues after Mass, as our Ministers of Holy Communion bring the Eucharist to those who are unable to attend Mass with the Community. Trained and commissioned lay persons

serve Holy Communion to those confined to their homes, facilities or hospitals. Our Ministers have a compassionate ear to listen, provide spiritual support and prayer. If you are unable to attend Mass and are in need of a Homebound Minister, or if you are aware of a parishioner who would like to receive Holy Communion, contact Debby Leonardo to arrange for weekly visits from our Homebound Ministry. To serve as a Sick & Homebound Minister, please contact Debby Leonardo, Pas-toral Care, at 909-987-9312 x 302, for more information.

Christian Initiation of Adults

is pleased to extend an invitation to any-one who is interested in learning more

about the Catholic Church.

In the RCIA process, one is able to learn and ask questions to determine if this is where God is calling them. If there is a desire to be received into the church, the team works closely in helping individuals discern their next step towards full

initiation in the Church. We invite those who may be interested in our Catholic faith or those who may want to look into becoming a

sponsor, to join us Tuesday evenings at 7:30PM in the Fr. Joseph Gregorek Library. For more information on the proc-

ess, please call Danny or Vicki Centurioni at 909 987 7971.

(RCIA) Adapted for Children and Teens

Children (ages 7-12) and Teens (ages 13-17) who are interested in joining the Catholic Church are invited to participate in the RCIA adapted for Children and Teens. The goal is to provide a means of conversion suited to the student’s age

and understanding, and to prepare them for the reception of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation). Parents and sponsors share a loving journey with the student’s by attending sessions with them and assisting them as they learn about Jesus and the Church, and en-suring that they experience a Catholic environment in the home. To participate more fully in this journey, we encouraged you to attend scheduled retreats, weekly Mass, special celebrations, and the Easter Liturgy. Our sessions begin in September and end in June.

Sessions held every Wed.5:30-7pm. – In the Library Feel free to contact us anytime throughout the year for program information

RCIA—A Teaching Moment -

What is the meaning of the Chi-Rho symbol ?

This is called a Chi-Rho. Chi and Rho are the first two letters (ΧΡ) of "Christ" in Greek ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ (Christos). Sometimes it is called the Monogram of Christ or Chrismon or Labarum. While it was used very early by persecuted Christians in the cata-

combs, when Constantine I was struggling to become emperor, he used the symbol at the front of his armies and was victorious. The Chi-Rho is often shown with the Greek letters Alpha (A) and Omega (lower case ώ or upper case Ω), the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. Jesus refers to himself: "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." (Revelation 22:13). The Chi-Rho is often on vestments used by the Priest’s, since they represent Christ (Inpersona Christi) at Holy Mass.

Meetings will be every 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month from 4-6 pm in

the JPII, 2nd Fl St. Bernardine Room. There are no fees to attend the meetings.

family members or friends. This group provides an opportunity to share your feelings and experiences with others in a caring and safe environment. By your sharing and supporting one another it will help give you the courage to

cope with your journey regardless of what type of cancer you have.

(See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. Yet so we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope based on him makes himself pure, as he is pure.)

In the Eucharist and through it, we recognize the dwelling place of the living God in human history. The Eucharist is the sacrament of the love that conquers death. It is the sacrament of God’s faithful-ness, the pre gift of love that can reconcile all people. The Eucha-rist is the real presence of Jesus our Redeemer in the bread which is his body and the wine which is his blood. Thanks to the Eucha-rist, Christ continues to build his Church: he brings us together in praise and thanksgiving for our salvation in a communion which only infinite love can create.

WHO IS JESUS? GOSPEL REFLECTIONS ON

the Jesus of History and the Christ of Faith SCRIPTURE STUDY FOR FALL/SPRING, 2015-2016

We call Jesus the Christ, “the Anointed One,” but who really was he and why has he had such an impact on the world? His vision for the world as it should be and his knowledge of and relationship to God, his “Father,” are as compelling today as they were some 2000 years ago. Our scripture study will give an overview of what is known about Jesus from the Scrip-tures, the historical record of his time, in order to gain a more complete picture of Jesus and his message. Each week we’ll focus on a specific image/title for Jesus through a key Gospel passage that will offer us another piece of the puzzle of who Jesus is and the meaning he has in our own lives and also in our world today, so that we can more strongly affirm that Jesus is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Our Scripture Study begins on Monday evening, Sept. 21, from 7:00 – 8:30 pm in the St. Augustine room of our JPII Cen-ter and for those who prefer a study during the day, Thursday morning, Sept.24 from 9:00 – 10:30 am in our parish Library. There is a minimal fee for our textbook. Please bring your Bible. For further information, please contact Mary Ann Andel at 909-987-9312 x 250.

Mass of the Deceased A Special Mass for All Souls will be

celebrated on Mon., Nov. 2nd at 7pm

In our Catholic tradition, the Church sets aside the month of November to pray for the souls of those who have gone before us in faith. Al-though this Mass is for All of our faithful de-parted, there will be a special dedication roll-call of our loved ones who have entered into †Eternal Rest from October 2014 through October 2015. All Parishioners of St. Peter & St. Paul are invited to attend this special Mass of the Deceased and join in prayer with parish members and families, as we honor and remember loved ones. A Reception in the Parish Hall will follow the Mass, for all families, guests and the Parish Community. If you wish to attend this Mass and your loved one did not have services at St. Peter & St. Paul Parish, during this past year, please contact Debby Leo-nardo, in the Parish Office, to assure your loved one’s name will be included in the dedication roll-call. During the month of November, there will be a Loving Memorial and Empty Memorial Pew, draped in white, representing the memory and physical ab-sence of a deceased loved one. You are welcomed to provide nothing larger than an unframed 5x7 or 4x6 picture, by October 28th, to the Par-ish Office, which will be framed for the Memorial. If possible, please email photos to Vivian Imbruglia at [email protected]. There will be a basket provided for notes or cards of your loved one, you are welcomed to personally place in the basket. Please include your name, address and phone number on the back of any items, which can be picked up in the Parish Office, following the month of November. Please, no fresh flowers because of the upkeep. It is our hope that this Loving Memorial will remind us to pray for all the faithful departed in joyful hope of eternal life and realize that we are all part of the communion of Saints.

—Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Mary’s Mercy Center/Christmas Bike Dive!

It is hard to believe that we are preparing for our 13th year of gathering bikes for the children attending Mary’s Mercy Center’s Christmas Celebration! The bike drive began because of one young boy who asked Santa for a bike … and he didn’t receive one. God has richly blessed us! As we prepare for the 2015

Mary’s Mercy Center Bike Drive, the Bike Committee would like to invite you to help us make this Christmas a joyful celebration for the local children living in poverty and homelessness. Last year we celebrated Christmas by raf-fling 412 bikes and helmets! Please see last year’s photos on our web site: http://marysmercycenterbikedrive.com/ I ask for your prayerful support that we may continue this Christmas tradition for the children. As you can imagine, there is much to do and I ask you to prayerfully consider helping in the following areas:

Bike Assembly (Saturday, December 5 @ 8:00 AM - 1 PM) Volunteers unloading bikes & set up (Friday, December 18 @ 9:00 AM - 2PM) Volunteers for Santa Christmas Party (Saturday, December 19 @ 6:00 AM - 2PM) Monetary donations to purchase bikes & helmets - (Write: ”BIKE DONATION” in the check memo)

Payable to: Mary’s Mercy Center, P. O. Box 7563 San Bernardino CA 92411

If you would like to participate in any of the events, please contact me by email “two weeks” prior to each event at: [email protected] - Subject: MMC Bikes. Thank you for your continued prayers and support. May Jesus continue to pour His love and mercy upon you and your loved ones as we approach these holy days of Thanksgiving and Christmas. “Jesus, I Trust In You!

Prayerfully, Elaine Hein & the Bike Committee

Military Photo Update If you have a family member actively serving our country and would like their picture included in the Military Frame of our Soldiers honoring our Men and Women for their service; please bring a photo of your Soldier to the Parish Office and fill out the Military Person-nel Information Form. The Military information consists of their rank, stationed location, branch of service, address of soldier, along with Parish family contact. These photos provide the community with recognition of those parishioners and family members serving in the military. Many of our parishioners will keep the names and faces in their hearts and prayers, along with all of our Military Men and Women serving our country. Please contact Debby Leonardo for more informa-tion at 909-987-9312

Sacrament of the Sick The Sacrament of the Sick is a Sacrament offered by the Church for healing in sickness. This sickness may be physical, mental or emo-tional. Anyone of any age can receive the Sacrament as often as needed, but not usually not less than a 3 month period. Unfortunately, many still refer to this Sacrament as the “Last Rites” and often call the parish for a priest when an individual is critical and close to end of life. The Church has not used the term “Last Rites” since the Vatican II

Council; asking the faithful to call for a priest when in the need of Healing. One of the realities of the Church today is a priest shortage. If a call is made to the Church for the Sacrament, when someone is close to the end of life, there might not be enough time for a priest to reach the person prior to them passing away, or a priest might not be available, at that important moment. Only a priest can offer the Sacrament of the Sick. A Deacon is not permitted to administer the rite of this Sacrament because it includes the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Church will do everything possible, in case of an emergency. However, it may be difficult if it is “last minute”.

May this be a reminder to take advantage of the healing Sacraments of the Church~

appointment. After hours, there is an emergency prompt for a call back from a priest.

Attention! DIVORCED, WIDOWED, &

SEPARATED WOMEN & MEN

“Yesterday is experience, tomorrow is hope...today is getting from

one to the other” Any adult who is currently experiencing (or within the last 3-4 years), a separation, divorce or widowhood is invited to join this group, there is no age limit. This was a much needed and active support group here at St. Peter & St. Paul from 1982-2002. Unfortunately, our spouses die and so does love, so the need for this ministry is still viable today. There will be discussions on various topics that affect the group’s needs and you will have the chance to share, if you like, with others that are having to cope with many of the same situations and emotions as you are. It takes time but you will begin to realize that there is life after death of a marriage or death of a spouse. By the bond of our Catholicism, and your ministering to each other through your shar-ing, trust, and respect for each other through Christ, group members will accept their situation, learn from it, heal, and forgive. You will move forward with peace and happi-ness in your hearts to the new plan God has for you. Please call if you would like more information.
