VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

If you would like to give back to the community but not sure how/where…. Look no further; we require volunteers for a variety of roles such as transporting clients for appointments to Bunbury & Busselton, local appointments, and meals on wheels delivery. Other volunteering roles are also available such as helping out at our clubs, running our monthly raffles, cooking & other club activities. Please note: You will be provided with a work vehicle for transports to Bunbury or Busselton.

We would love to have some wonderful volunteers to commit to sitting on the Newsagency corner every so often selling raffle tickets to fund raise for the Wellness and Respite Community Centre. The more volunteers we have, the less time commitment for each person. The raffles have been a great fundraiser and we would love to continue.

For further information please contact the office on 9771 6900

TAI CHI

Come and join in the fun. Novice or experienced, all abilities welcome.

WHEN: Every Wednesday 10.30 - 11.30

COST: $10.00

WHERE: Wellness and Respite Community Centre This gentle form of exercise can help maintain strength, flexibility, and balance, and could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life.

Tai Chi is often described as “meditation in motion,” but it might well be called “medication in motion.” There is growing evidence that this mind-body practice, which originated in China as a martial art, has val-ue in treating or preventing many health problems. And you can get started even if you aren’t in top shape or the best of health.

In this low-impact slow-motion exercise, you go without pausing through a series of motions named for animal actions—for example, “white crane spreads its wings” - or martial arts moves, such as “box both ears.” As you move, you breathe deeply and naturally, focusing your attention—as in some kinds of meditation—on your bodily sensations. Tai Chi differs from other types of exercise in several respects. The movements are usually circular and never forced. The muscles are relaxed rather than tensed, the joints are not fully extended or bent, and connective tissues are not stretched. Tai Chi can be easily adapted for anyone, from the most fit to people confined to wheelchairs or recovering from surgery.

Tai chi has many physical and emotional benefits.

Some of the benefits of Tai Chi include; decreased anxiety, depression and improvements in cognition.

It may also help you manage symptoms of some chronic diseases such as; Fibromyalgia chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. If you require more information please phone the office on 9771 6900

Dementia Action Week 20 - 26 September 2021

Dementia impacts close to half a million Australian’s and almost 1.6 million Australians are involved in their care. The number of people living with dementia is set to double in the next 25 years.

With so many people impacted now and into the future, it is vital we clear up some of the prevailing misconceptions about dementia.

People living with dementia can live active and fulfilling lives many years after diagnosis. Despite this, they often experience discrimination. In a recent Dementia Australia survey, more than 70 per cent, of people believed discrimination towards people with dementia is common or very common.

During Dementia Action Week 2021, Dementia Australia is providing simple and practical tips to:

Give a little support to a person living with dementia. Give a little support to a carer, friend or family member of a person

living with dementia. Help healthcare professionals make their practice more

dementia friendly.

The concept for Dementia Action Week was developed in consultation with Dementia Advocates, who have a lived experience of dementia.

The ‘A little support makes a big difference’ campaign demonstrates that many people living with dementia can continue to live well for many years after their diagnosis. This year the focus will also be on supporting and celebrating carers of people with dementia. For more information, visit the Wellness & Respite Community Centre display in Reception. http://www.dementia.org.au/dementia-action-week

How to Play Suduko

Sudoku is a puzzle involving logic - no arithmetic or guessing is required! The basic idea of completing puzzles is to find cells (the small squares) where you are sure that only one value is a valid placement.

The Basics

The rules of Sudoku are that you should fill a number in to every cell in the grid, using the numbers 1 to 9. The restriction is that you can only use each number once in each row, each column, and in each of the 3 x 3 boxes.
