As you know, we will have a beautiful tranquil day spa in our Life Center that will be managed by Matura, our spa partner. Here are a few highlights from their very own Chris Pacheco.

Across all generations, spas are viewed as a place to seek relaxation. In this fast-paced digital age of technology, a professional day spa offers comfort, rejuvenation, and the human touch that remains at the core of the spa-going experience.

Since 2018, Matura Salon & Spa Management has been providing professional salon and spa services in all of the salons at Menno Haven. We hope that you have noticed our new salon menus and have visited the salon to enjoy the professional salon quality of the products we use and the services offer.

Matura is especially excited to be involved with the development of the new Life Center Salon and Day Spa where our services will expand to include our full menu of hair design, coloring and conditioning services, natural nail services, skin treatments, new scalp treatments, makeup application services and much more!

When you first step through the doors of the new Life Center Salon and Day Spa, you will experience a tranquil spa setting that offers a complete sensory experience for all Menno

Haven residents. Our goal is to create a welcoming atmosphere that will promote well-being that will leave you looking and feeling your best.

With a focus on hair, nails and skin, we plan to offer the latest in new scalp treatments to ensure that both hair and scalp are healthy. These include a clarifying service to help remove product build-up; a strengthening service to restore vitality to thinning hair and a color protection service to help prolong vibrant color and shine for increased volume. Facial services will also be expanded to include anti-aging treatments and treatments to help improve circulation for glowing skin.

All Menno Haven residents will continue to enjoy reasonably priced salon and spa services in a no-tipping environment, receive preferential scheduling, and be the first to know about our new products and services!

The new Life Center Salon & Day Spa is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle and is devoted to overall well-being – a welcome place where you can take the time to refresh, replenish and renew your mind, body and spirit.

Stay tuned for part 6 in the next edition of the Haven Connect!

    GRATITUDE & THANKS

Thank you so much for your prayers, calls, cards, visits and gifts given in my behalf during my recovery from that horrible scooter accident on May 27. Each one of you is precious and I appreciate you immensly. I'm so thankful for my recovery.

Recycling tip of the month: This is not a new tip, just a reminder. The Green Team collects batteries and CFL bulbs. The collection locations are: Northgate in alcove between the main entrance and the Library; Village Square: box under the television; Manor building: reception desk. Note: CFL’s have a spiral bulb and ceramic base; incandescent and LED bulbs are not recyclable – they are trash.

Straw: The dining venues now have biodegradable straws. They are green in color and look like plastic, but they are biodegradable. Kudos to Culinary Services.

    GREEN TEAM NEWS

Glass: Reminder – glass is no longer recyclable; it is trash! This is a national problem. The two main reasons that glass is not recycled is that the weight drives up transportation costs (and carbon emissions) and some glasses (Pyrex and window glass) are not recyclable and can contaminate the useful collected glass.

It’s hard to believe we are half way through the year already! The Grounds Team has been busy this year. As you are aware, the Service Center is complete so we have slowly started moving our things from the white shed and the barn to the new building. The rain is keeping us busy mowing and line trimming, as well as trying to stay ahead of the weeds. Shrubbery trimming is still on going as is the mulching. For those that get mulch this year, that will be finishing up soon. Tree rings are not part of the summer team’s job. The full time staff will work on those after the shrubbery trimming is complete. We also work on them in the winter and early spring.

As some may be aware, we had some turnover in the Grounds Team this year. Our new members are Jim Shawley, Dan Bauchman, and most recently Chip Gift transferred from Housekeeping. Bob Bender has also joined us part time. Currently we are still down one position but are hopeful it will be filled soon. I would like to commend the rest of the Grounds Team for filling in the voids created by the vacancies. Along with taking care of their areas, they have had to take on additional areas of responsibility. Thank you for your patience with our team during this time.

Lastly, I have a few reminders about trash and recycling. Please have all trash in trash bags and the bags tied off. We do not have the ability to handle loose trash. Any trash that is not in trash bags will not be picked up. Also, be aware to not make the bags too heavy. All of our trash has to be handled twice by the team. Heavy bags have led to injuries. Please use trash bags that are no larger than the 13 gal. tall kitchen bags. If the bags are too heavy, you may be asked to re-bag your trash. Recycling items are as follows: Soda bottles, water bottles, milk jugs and detergent bottles, cardboard, newspaper, junk mail, magazines, phone books, hard & soft back books, aluminum and tin cans. Styrofoam, glass, all other plastics are no longer able to be recycled. All cardboard boxes should be broken down to take up less space in the dumpster.

If you have any work request for the Grounds Team, please call Sandy Myers at (717) 261-2500 and she will submit the request. Thank you!

    MENNO HAVEN CARDBOARD BOAT RACE

Friday, August 9 Reflection Lake at Chambers Pointe

The Northgate Pool will be vacuumed 1st and 4th Wednesday of the month from 11:30AM – 3PM.

    NORTHGATE POOL CLOSED

Wellness has a few reminders for a safe and enjoyable time in our pools:

If you hear thunder or see lightning, exit the pool and spa immediately. Keep away from windows, do not shower or use a landline telephone. Wait 30 minutes after the thunder and lightning stop before returning to the water (according to the American Red Cross).

We do not have lifeguards on duty so a pool and/or spa buddy is required. A pool/spa buddy is defined as 18 yo or older person capable of recognizing and responding to an emergency. A child can not be a buddy. For example, if grandma brings her 9 yo granddaughter to the pool, grandma needs a buddy. Contact wellness if you need a buddy we will be happy to assist you.

Please sign in when you use the pool and indicate the number of guests. The Department of Health requires us to keep count.

INDEPENDENT LIVING TOWN MEETING & RESIDENT

    COUNCIL MINUTES

Town Meetings and Resident Councils are just two of the ways that residents and team members share information and community updates. Currently, not all residents receive minutes from these meetings. In order to keep all residents informed, we have developed a new process for distribution of those minutes, and soon you will notice some changes in how you receive them.

All independent living residents will receive paper copies of the Town Meeting and Resident Council Minutes from their respective areas of the community in their resident mailbox.

I.e. Brookview cottage residents will receive Brookview Cottage Council Minutes and Brookview Town Meeting Minutes as those meetings occur.

If you would prefer to receive these minutes via email rather than paper, please email Melissa Rabon at [email protected]. If you currently receive minutes via email and would like to remain that way, it’s important that you send an email and let us know.

Our goal is to keep you in the know and at the center of important news and updates. If you have any questions, please reach out to Tracey Ecelberger, Executive Director of Independent Living. (717) 261-2306.

    August 2019Banking Done Your Way

Investment & Trust ServicesIt’s hard to believe that the summer is winding down. August is generally considered the last month of summer, especially now that school starts before Labor Day. As we try to get those last events in before summer end, we begin to think about all the things that we need to accomplish before the end of the year.

For many, the last four months of the year are the busiest and year end deadlines seem to move in quickly. Often, there is so much to do we forget about our end of year financial details, including the things we can do that would offer a tax advantage such as gifting, harvesting capital gains and losses, making contributions to charitable organizations, reviewing our assets for possible realignment and the paying of an annual RMD from your IRA to a favorite non-profit.

Many times these things fall by the wayside and we run out of time to get them done. So, consider starting early, in these last days of summer, to plan for those year-end financial tasks. Don’t let the year end rush catch you, with perhaps your most important tasks left undone.

The Investment and Trust Services Department of F&M Trust has a team of knowledgeable professionals ready to help with a wide range of investment products and services. Stop by one of our branch locations or give us a call to speak with one of our financial representatives.

Monthly Security TipUse digital file shredders to dispose of sensitive documents. Deleting something from your computer doesn’t mean it’s really gone; it’s just hidden from the operating system. With the right tools, someone could conceivably recover sensitive data you thought was gone. File shredding software provides a solution, in the form of data sanitization methods that overwrite deleted items to make them far less accessible.

Northgate Meet & GreetHave a financial question? Come see us at Northgate. We're there every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 11:00-12:30.

    Introduction

A Special ThanksF&M Trust would like to say thank you to Herbert Sipes and Larry Lowry! We truly appreciate you volunteering your time to help build our boat for the Cardboard Boat Race!

Working with F&M Trust at Menno Haven over the past year has been a tremendous experience and I’m thrilled to take on the role of Community Office Manager. I started at the bank in 2016 as a Teller and since then I’ve been blessed to cross paths with many great individuals and mentors that have helped me on this journey. At F&M Trust we strive to find individualized solutions, build lasting relationships, and be involved in the communities we serve. It is our sincere hope that we bring that spirit with us to Menno Haven each and every day. Thank you for the honor of getting to know you and serve you.
