Congregation Archivists Meet

Seeking Oneness, Working togetherThe contemplative dialog retreat stimulated a deep dive into possibilities for governance. We were given six scenarios and our group added a 7th. As we worked with them, I found myself changing. Nothing was given or set. Rather it was like the river below us: fluid and somewhat murky. My call was to remain in the flow. Former structures seemed more fixed. Now all parts were moving, amalgamating, redefining, and being set aside and morphing into something new. But all for mission. So with eyes wide open, sleeves rolled up we move forward together with COURAGE and TRUST. v ~ Written by Sister Theresa Harpin, CSJ

With hands across the Border in Demonstrations for Justice for all.Sisters Anne McMullen and Judy Molosky, CSJ drove with 3 SJW Workers from the LA Program to Tucson and Nogales, AZ to participate in the new location of the SOA Watch protest: U.S. Border Convergence, 10/7-10/10. Hospitality was provided by Sisters Irma Odabashian, CSJ and Marge Foppe, CSJ at St. Mary’s Community in Tucson–they were warm and welcoming! v

An Urgent Call

FOr vOLUNteerS at the U.S. – MexiCO BOrDerreceived the following report from Ruben, the Director of Annunciation House in El Paso, Texas this week: The numbers of arriving refugees has really gone up. Two weeks ago we received close to 600, last week close to 500, and this week we may approach 800. … I’m looking for more sites to activate and cast the net to recruit volunteers. Right now refugees are telling

us that they spent eight, nine and ten days in holding cells. We received a 26-year-old mom at Annunciation House from Delicias, Mexico. They killed her husband and both her small children! When she asked for asylum at the bridge, she ended up spending nine days in a holding cell. When she arrived at Annunciation House, she was truly traumatized. ICE and Border Patrol are calling me asking me to find a way of increasing the numbers we can take in. They now tell me that they don’t want to release refugees to the street. As impossible as it may seem, this is the impact that Annunciation House is having—they don’t want to release to the street, and they are now willing to drive the released refugees anywhere I ask that they take them. It’s incredibly busy but truly a blessing. As you can see, the need for volunteers to help at the border is urgent. Congregational funding is available for any sisters or associates who would be able to go and help at Annunciation House. If you would be interested, please email Sister Ida Berresheim, CSJ (SL) at [email protected] for more information. v
