PRESIDENTIAL
ADDRESS
Hello to all,
The Spring Educational Meetings have
been completed and were very
successful. The Limited Symposia's
were held in Des Moines and
Coralville and attended by 350 people.
Most were Limited Permit Holders. The Spring Symposium was held
in Coralville and 210 people attended. This year we offered a General
program on Friday/Saturday, and a CT break-out session on Saturday.
A HUGE THANK YOU to Nancy Harney, Program Chair; JoAnn
Horsfield, Registration Chair and ALL the speakers for taking time
out their schedule and presenting to us.
Thank you to Dana Schmitz and Roxann Pospilsil for filling in as
Saturday morning speakers when we were notified the planned
speaker was hospitalized. Dana & Roxann were also speakers for the
2 Saturday Limited Symposia's, so THANK YOU for giving up
another Saturday morning to help us out.
I certainly thank each and every one of you on the Board of
Director's, for making the special efforts to attend the Thursday night
Board meeting. We held a "mini" reception for JoAnn Horsfield
after the Board meeting to say Thank you for her 33 years as
Executive Secretary, and certainly many more years on the Board of
Directors.
We welcome Joni Caplan as the new Executive Secretary of the
ISRT. She has been working with JoAnn to make the transition a
smooth one.
The Board approved an ISRT staff position opening to be posted on
the www.isrt.org site for the staff position of Web-Editor
Administrator. I was lucky enough to be chosen as the new
Web-Editor Administrator and will replace Joni Caplan effective
May 1, 2012. I look forward to working with the Board of Directors
in this capacity.
The Scientific Essay Competition will be held again this year, at the
ISRT Annual Meeting Sept 21, 2012 at the Isle Casino and Hotel in
Waterloo. The rules and application are on the ISRT website along
with Bob Cahalan, President-Elect, mailing address. The postmark
deadline is July 1. After the qualified Essays are judged on the written
portion of the competition, the Top 3 Essayists will be invited to
present their paper on September 21.
The new deadline for Scholarship applications is August 15th.
This change was a request from the Educator's Committee, as the
previous July 1 deadline was before students finished the
Radiography program and were able to apply for the higher learning
RT(R) Scholarship instead.
Please contact Bob Cahalan about nominating someone to be a
candidate for an Elected Office on the Board. Qualified candidates
hold both ASRT and ISRT memberships and are RT(R)'s working in
the Scientific field. Send Bob your resume' and picture to be posted
on the website.
I invite you to read the minutes of the April 12, 2012 Board of
Director's meeting that is posted on the www.isrt.org site. Friend us
on Facebook too. We would enjoy keeping in contact with you.
Respectfully submitted,
Tracy Kimler, RT(R)

AREA 3
March 28, 2012
Area 3 has completed the ASRT compliance process and filed our Federal
Taxes December 28, 2011 for our Fiscal Year ending July 2011. We are still in
the process of combining the assets of the Southern Valley District into our area.
Area 3 has continued to be unsuccessful at contacting the former Southeast District
despite the assistance of ISRT board.
We have had three of our four annual meetings this year and have seen an overall
decline in attendance despite using Skype to connect with the southern half of our
district. Area 3 is accepting applications for our scholarship until April 1st.
We are looking forward to a successful closure to this year and seeking nominations
for the upcoming term.
Respectfully Submitted,
Shellie Pike, MSRS, RRA RT(R)(CT)

The Spring Symposium for the Mason City District of the ISRT (Area 4) was held
March 3, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa. 45 District members, 12

have world-renowned Physicist, Dr. Stewart Bushong, speak on two topics. Dr.

a digital age. Dr. Bushong is always a lively presenter that keeps his audience
laughing until the end. His second talk, “How Low Can You Go”, discussed the
increase in medical radiation exposure. Neuroradiologist, Dr. Joe Ocel, spoke on
Nuclear Neuroradiology. The final presentation was on “Trauma Extremities”,
