Site Description: A eutrophic kettle hole mere of importance nationally and internationally (SSSI). Surrounded by agricultural farmland. Great Fen sedge & Club rush are present in the marginal vegetation. Previously of importance for the submerged vegetation which has declined. Used by Anglers.

Access rights: All year – permission given by farm. Ellesmere Angling Club is Tony Fielding

Location and Access/Egress: North from Shrewsbury on the A 528 towards Ellesmere. Go through Cockshutt. Two miles after Cockshutt on the right hand side of the road is the small lay-by. If approaching from Shrewsbury, turn the vehicle around before parking (continue up the road to turning point – see map) so that students can disembark safely.
There is also limited parking if you go into Cockshutt, almost immediately take the first right to English Frankton . Take the left (Crosemere Lane) at the Y junction. At mini cross-road go straight over. Continue down lane until past farms. Road peters out into farm track, continue until parking area is reached (SJ432300).
