National AssociationExcellence AwardsNAPLES, FLORIDA — The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield was recently honored with four national awards for association excellence by the National Association of Home Builders.

By receiving top honors in four categories, the HBA of Greater Springfield again was among the most decorated Home Builders Associations in the country.

“We live and work someplace special. The members of the HBA of Greater Springfield are remarkable people who do remark-able things, as if they were routine.” HBA CEO Matt Morrow said. “Our HBA staff is hardworking and committed to serving those remarkable members at the highest possible level. And those who make up our volunteer leadership (board of directors, committees, councils, etc.) are people of extraordinary vi-sion, purpose, and resolve. They are leaders who – even amid the unprecedented chal-lenges facing our industry – consistently insist on excellence in everything they touch.”

In January 2011, the HBA of Greater Springfield announced

it would partner with Habitat for Humanity of Springfield to build the first two homes in Habitat’s new Builders’ Circle development. The homes will be certified to the National Green Building Stan-dard and their construction will serve as a demon-stration of flexible and affordable methods by which construction professionals can build green in a residential setting.

Home builder Scott Kisling, a Certified Green Professional (CGP), is managing the project on behalf of the HBA. Scott’s Builders’ Circle Project Blog helps keep HBA industry profes-sionals and curious consumers up to date on the latest green building features being incorporated into the project. The blog also provides updates on the project’s latest progress and upcoming needs. Those who would like to help with the project are encouraged to leave their comments at the end of blog posts. Or, e-mail Scott directly to offer your assistance. For more details, photos, and videos visit the blog at http://bit.ly/BuildersCircle

Construction Forecast Excellence Awards...Even amid lackluster national housing numbers, home build-ing in the Ozarks (while certainly affected by the economic downturn) has reason for optimism. Joe Zanola (Zanola Company and MarketGraphics Research Group) presented his annual fall Construction Forecast at a meeting of the mem-

bers of the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield on Tuesday, September 20, 2011.

KY3‘s Jay Scherder covered the event, and interviewed Zanola and HBA of Greater Springfield CEO Matt Morrow for his story (watch at http://bit.ly/ConstructionForecast).

The bottom line: Builders in Southwest Missouri markets responded more sensibly to the national economic downturn than builders in many other markets in the U.S. As a

result, this market took its dip later into the recession than most, never sank as deeply, and likely will be among the first markets to emerge. For more details go to: http://bit.ly/ConstructionForecast

members with unprecedented access to meaningful housing and construction data, analysis, and forecasts. This gives members a clear advantage over their competition in today’s complex housing market.

Best Home or Industry Trade Show: 2010 HBA Home Remodeling Expo

Amid difficult economic times for the residential construction industry, the HBA made adjustments in format and marketing strategy for its annual Home Remodeling Expo.

The results were stronger vendor partici-pation and evaluations, and the show’s largest consumer attendance since 2007. The HBA’s 2011 Home Remod-eling Expo is scheduled for October 14-16, and limited vendor space is still available.
