    SCAN

Interlaced scan splits each video frame into two "fields,"displaying all the even horizontal scan lines (2,4,6...) in1/60th of a second, followed by the odd scan lines(1,3,5...) during the next 1/60th of a second. That means

you'll see a complete video frame every 1/30th of asecond

Progressive scan, on the other hand, displays all the linesin a single sweep (1,2,3,4...). You'll see a complete frameevery 1/60th of a second.

    REFRESH RATE

Q: What is "120Hz refresh rate"?A: Picture tubes are progressive-scan by nature, displaying 60 video frames per second oftenreferred to as "60Hz." HDTVs with 120Hz refreshrate double the standard rate to 120 frames persecond. Because each video frame appears for onlyhalf the normal amount of time, on-screen motionlooks smoother and more fluid, with less motion blurand smearing. It's especially noticeable when

viewing fast-action sports and video games.
