2. Introduction

This document provides testing procedures for HDMI CTS 2.1 Test ID HF 2-4: “Sink TMDS Electrical - 6G

- Differential Impedance.” HDMI Forum created HDMI CTS 2.1 to specify a set of tests that should be

performed to verify features described in HDMI Specification Version 2.1. The Method of Implementation

for the test using the Keysight E5071C ENA is available on HDMI Form web site at

http://www.hdmiforum.org/.

This document complements the test procedure using the E5080B ENA (Successor of E5071C).

5. Instrument Setup

5.1 Recalling a State File

This section describes how to recall a state file of the E5080B that includes all the measurement settings

for HDMI impedance test. The state file can be downloaded at:

www.keysight.com/find/ena-tdr_compliance

Copy the state file into the E5080B’s directory via USB mass storage device and recall the state file with

the TDR measurement class of S96011A/B software (*.tdr). Necessary parameters for testing are

automatically set up in the E5080B. Refer to Appendix for the details about manual setup.

1. Press Setup hardkey (or click Setup soft key) 2. Click Meas Class… to show the dialog for selecting a measurement class. 3. Check TDR. 4. Click OK. 5. Click OK to launch TDR in basic mode.

If TDR setup wizard is shown, click Close button in the TDR setup wizard main windows.

6. Open Setup tab of the TDR software. 7. Click File and select Recall State to open the Recall State dialog box.

8. Specify a folder and a file name (*.tdr) and click Open.

5.2 Saving a State File

All the measurement settings including calibration information can be saved in a state file (*.tdr). After

performing calibration, all necessary calibration coefficients are saved in a state file and can be recalled

for the next measurements.

1. Open Setup tab of the TDR software. 2. Click File and select Save State to open the Save State dialog box. 3. Enter file name and save the state file.

5.3 Calibration

The purpose of this step is to calibrate the delay and loss of the RF cables (and test fixtures) by following

the wizard of E5080B. Full calibration is performed by using the 2- or 4-port ECal Module at the end of RF

cables connected to the ENA test ports. After connecting the test fixture to the cables, the effect of the

fixture is removed by the fixture compensation function of the TDR software.

5.3.1 ECal Calibration & Fixture Compensation

Full calibration is performed by the TDR measurement class with E5080B. 2- or 4-port ECal Module (i.e. N4433D) connected to the E5080B is necessary for the calibration procedure.

1. Open Setup tab of the TDR software. 2. Click ECal to launch the Full Calibration (ECal) and Fixture Compensation Wizard.

3. Perform Full Calibration (ECal) a. Connect E5080B Port 1 & 2 to the ECal Module with the test cables b. Click Calibrate to launch calibration wizard

5.3.2 DUT Length Measurement

Full calibration is performed by the TDR measurement class with E5080B. The 4-port ECal Module (i.e. N4433D) connected to the E5080B is necessary for the calibration procedure.

1. Open Setup tab of the TDR software. 2. Click DUT Length - Auto to launch the DUT Length Wizard.

3. Perform DUT Length Measurement a. Connect the test fixture to the DUT. Do not power on the DUT. b. Click Measure to specify DUT’s electrical length. c. Once green check mark appears, click Finish.

5.3.3 Adjustment of Effective Rise Time

The effective rise time at the open end of the HDMI connector of the test fixture is adjusted for differential impedance measurements. DUT is disconnected during the adjustment procedure. 1. Open TDR/TDT tab. 2. Click Trace 1 (Tdd11) for Differential Impedance. 3. Click Parameter tab. 4. Select “Time Domain” and “Differential” for Measure. 5. Select Format to “Volt”. 6. Click Marker Search and select “Rise Time (10 – 90%)”. 7. Press Run to measure the rise time on the screen. 8. Set Horizontal scale to 500 ps/div and reference position to -750 ps.

9. Enter rise time until the measured rise time on trace 1 (Tdd11) is close to the specified value of 200 ps, but not exceed 200 ps.
