We are a good school in all areas. At a time of great educational change and new OFSTED frameworks the school is delighted with the strongly good outcome against all measures.

OFSTED commented in particular on:

the ‘implacable focus on the very best…The moral purpose at the heart of the school [that] can be seen in its outstanding care and compassion for its young people’.

‘Teachers are courageous in trying out new ideas, and students appreciate such creativity. A rigorous, subject wide approach to the teaching of literacy is a significant strength of the school.’ The Lead HMI commented in her feedback on ‘lessons being a delight’.

The quality and quantity of homework set and completed is helping students to learn well, beyond their lessons. There is ‘no escape from Prep’.

‘Older students are strong role models for younger students. Students understand the difference be-tween right and wrong and show respect for all in their community. They are clear that the school is not a place where any form of bullying or discrimination is tolerated.’ ‘Staff and parents indicate that the school ensures high standards of behaviour and safety

Governors were particularly delighted to read about the excellent provision offered in the Sixth Form at FCC.

The Sixth Form was judged as being good. The continued rise in results has been described by OFSTED as likely to be sustained which would give a judgement of outstanding. The curriculum provides diverse and ambitious pathways for all students. Study programmes are bespoke to every learner and this skilled pro-vision results in rapidly improving attainment and high retention levels with a success well above national average.

Students enjoy excellent careers education, advice and guidance. As a result, the proportion of students progressing on to higher education, including increasing numbers to the Russell Group universities, is at record levels. Students describe teaching in the Sixth Form as being ‘top notch’ and inspectors agree.
