Dublin International Aviation Training Academy delivers their
first ACI accredited course: Breathing Apparatus Re-
validation (BAR)
Airports Council International (ACI) is pleased to announce that Dublin International
Aviation Training Academy (DIATA) delivered the first ever ACI accredited course titled
Breathing Apparatus Re-validation (BAR) under the ACI Accredited Training Institute
(ATI) programme.
The inaugural BAR was delivered in Dublin from 7 to 9 September, 2016 and attended
by six students from the Fire & Rescue Service at Dublin International Airport.
The ATI initiative was designed to build a network of airport training units that offer
performance-based, up-to-date courses and other learning activities accredited by ACI
that meet international standards for quality in workplace learning.
BAR is specifically designed by DIATA and daa plc (formerly Dublin Airport Authority)
station officers for fire fighters to ensure that professionals have full familiarity with
breathing apparatuses and associated equipment. ACI recommends that profession-
als using such equipment re-validate their training bi-annually.

Course feedback
“I would like to say it was an extremely
enjoyable few days” said Eddie Quinn,
Fire Fighter, daa plc . “The course
content was excellent as was the format
in which it was presented. Keeping up-
to-date with practices and procedures is
vital as this is one of the only pieces of
equipment on any fire vehicle designed
for the protection of the firefighter. I
would love to see more re-validation
courses rolled out in the near future. Many
thanks for giving me the opportunity of taking the course”.
“After completing the BA wearer’s valida-
tion course last week can I say well done
to all concerned for making it such a suc-
cess,” said John Finlay, Fire Fighter, daa
plc . “This course was a breath of fresh
air! Just the tonic to keep wearers up-
skilled and up-to-speed.”
“With 25 years’ experience as an aviation fire fighter I am delighted that ACI and DI-
ATA have entrusted me with the opportunity to educate and coach the current and fu-
ture generations of firefighters,” said Eamon Donohoe, BAR instructor. “I am look-
ing forward with tremendous pride at seeing this course being delivered to many avia-
tion fire fighters around the globe. The students were delighted that they could now
show they had obtained an accredited certificate.”

Dublin International Aviation Training Academy delivers their
first ACI accredited course: Breathing Apparatus Re-
validation (continued)
“It is very gratifying to observe BAR in Dub-
lin,” said Kevin O’Driscoll, Senior Vice
President, DIATA. “Our colleagues at Dublin
Airport Authority fire service have co-
developed this programme with DIATA course
developers. The fact that several of our fire
officers in Dublin and Cork airports are now
recognized as ACI instructors has been an-
other positive development. Congratulations
to those who participated and to those who
made it possible”.
“DIATA has delivered a first class course that has fully met the high standards for ac-
creditation in the ATI network,” said Kevin Caron, Head, ACI Global Training and
DNA Assistance Programmes, ACI World. “Given the overwhelming success of this
initial training offering, we look forward to accrediting other qualified airport organiza-
tions to deliver those courses to meet the training demands of their own organization,
their region as well as appeal to our global membership. We hope that this initiative
will be another building block in meeting the capacity requirements for future aviation
growth.”
ACI would like to congratulate DIATA on this landmark achievement and acknowledge
the support for this programme by Kevin O’Driscoll and Eoin Ryan who were instru-
mental in their efforts for DIATA to become the first ATI for ACI.
