It is with a grateful heart that I present to you the 2013-14 Headmaster’s Annual Report to

Donors. Your generosity has helped us in so many ways. Because of you, we have new floors,

new restrooms, new lockers, and new science labs! Because of you, our teachers have money

to spend on classroom enhancements as well as workshops and seminars that help them to be

more effective in the classroom! Because of you, over 100 students, who are landmark appro-

priate in every way except financially, have access to a landmark education!!

You have given generously and sacrificially, and while I wish I could tell you the total impact

your gifts have had at landmark, I simply cannot. Your generosity is being written on the lives

of our children every day. and so, while this report focuses on numbers, in those numbers,

I want you to see the faces of children who are being prepared to impact the world for Jesus

Christ. Children who are not just learning how to read and write and do math; but children

who are learning more about their lord and savior Jesus Christ, about how much He loves

them, and about the life He has called them to.

so, from the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you because without you, much of what

we are doing to prepare our children to impact the world for Jesus Christ would not be possible.

Blessings,

mike titus

regular annual gifts are essential to the ongoing success of the school. the newly named annual campaign for Teachers and stu-dents, or acTs initiative for short (formerly Impact Goal #1) is the one annual charitable drive to which every family is encouraged to participate.

all undesignated gifts (and some designated gifts) to this fund, enable the school to underwrite a classroom resource allowance for every teacher as well as individual and corporate professional development opportunities; and partial, need-based financial aid for ap-proximately 120 qualified students from diverse backgrounds.

the partners of the Headmaster was formed in 2012 as a leadership level charitable partnership between donor and headmaster. 2013-14 members are designated by a “pH” beside their names in the donor roll below. their annual gift single-handedly under-wrote budget for at least one teacher or student priority as follows. every gift of $1,250 makes the donor a partner with the headmas-ter and one teacher. every gift of $3,500 makes them a partner with the headmaster and one student.

our thanks to the following donors whose gift(s) to the annual drive were received from august 1, 2013, to July 31, 2014.

Generous donations from Landmark Christian School supporters make the impos-sible possible. There are qualified students in our community who are able to pursue their education at Landmark only because of the caring individuals who have given sacrificially to our need-based financial aid program. Landmark’s Director of Com-munications, Alma Stone, spoke with a family who has benefitted from the financial aid program and asked them to share their thoughts about the ways Landmark has impacted their lives. The family has chosen to remain anonymous.

why is an independent, christian education important to you?my family is so thankful for the assistance that we are receiving to be able to continue to send our children to the best Christian school anywhere. We came to lCs many years ago because the Christian schools near our home were all legalistic. landmark is based upon the grace and mercy of our lord Jesus Christ.

how has a landmark christian education impacted your family?the education and Biblical worldview that our children are receiving is already having a huge impact on them, and we cannot wait to see what God does in their future as they go out into the world. they are already making an impact in our church and our community.

how has receiving financial aid made a difference to your family? Without receiving financial assistance we would not be able to continue what we began several years ago. my wife and I both serve in ministry, and it has become more difficult to meet these obligations without the rich generosity of others. Without this help our world, as we know it, would collapse.

what would you say to families about the difference their gift can make?I would love to encourage every family to become a part of this vital ministry of giving to landmark. their sacrificial generosity helps families like ours that could not live this dream without their graciousness.

The Importance of Financial Aid

Describe practices and “home” games before we had chastain Field? Before we had Chastain Field, our practices and home games were held at Wilkerson mill park in palmetto. While we were grateful to be able to use those fields, this arrangement definitely came with some obstacles. every day we used valuable practice time to load the bus for practice. also, the park did not have a suitable place to store our equipment. there were also issues with the fields being cut and ready to play at times. all in all, we were grateful for the opportunity to have a softball program, but the Wilkerson mill park arrangement left much to be desired.

I think the biggest downfall to using Wilkerson mill park as a home field was the absence of a home crowd on game days. our stands were usually filled only with the families of the players, and seldom did faculty or students make the trip down to palmetto for a game. the lack of attendance was felt by our players, and it made us feel isolated and not as important to the school as the teams who played on campus.

what has it been like practicing and playing at chastain Field? Chastain Field has been an amazing addition to our program. We are so grateful to have such a wonderful facility. now we are able to make the most use of our practice time because travel time is at a minimum. also, our field is always in great shape for both practices and games. If there is ever a grounds need, we are able to take care of it, as opposed to having to coordinate with the county. However, I think the biggest difference is the feel-ing that we are a big part of the school now. Being on campus makes us feel more connected, and we are definitely seeing more attendance from faculty and students now. I feel so fortunate to have one of the most beautiful fields around.

how do you feel this has benefitted the softball program at landmark? moving the softball program from palmetto to on-campus has given new life to the softball program. It is so rewarding

to see the years of hard work that david and renee Chastain put into the program be rewarded with a beautiful softball field on campus. the program is growing like never before, and I definitely think that the presence of the field on campus and in sight has been hugely responsible for this growth. How wonderful to see the Chastain’s legacy continue!

The Importance of Capital PrioritiesThanks to donations to Campaign Impact’s Goal #2 for capital improvements, Landmark’s softball team was finally able to realize a home field advantage in 2012. Misha Greer, varsity softball’s head coach, talks about what this has meant to the players and the program.

“Having a field to call our own has meant so much to me these past three years. I am thankful to have been able to play softball at Landmark and especially to have the opportunity to play ‘at home’.” (Ginny Hearn, Class of 2015) Ginny has been in the softball program since middle school. Misha Greer has been a Landmark teacher and softball coach since 2006.

In 2008, landmark’s headmaster and Board of trustees recognized the need to generate an additional stream of revenue, other than tuition and annual giving, to address long-term institutional priorities that included teacher retention and compensation, missions and international travel, need-based financial aid, and the maintenance of landmark’s facilities. each fund is permanently invested ac-cording to policies set by the Board of trustees and is Finance Committee and a portion of the investment income will be applied to the fund’s intended purpose(s). these endowments are funded through outright cash gifts and through planned gifts such as bequests and life insurance.

our thanks go to the following donors whose gift(s) to endowment were received from august 1, 2013, to July 31, 2014.

The Importance of Growing Endowments

Dr. vaughn and Tanyia clagette Family endowed Financial aid Fund the dr. Vaughn and tanyia Clagette Family Financial aid Fund was conceived in 2011 by dr. and mrs. Clagette and is being funded monthly over a period of five years. the fund will eventually provide need-based financial aid to a quali-fied student from a traditionally under-represented minority group. First preference will be given to students residing in douglas County, Georgia, and students in the learning solu-tions Center. awards will begin once the market value reaches $50,000. until that time, additional gifts and market growth will be reinvested according to school policy. the Clagettes have three sons, Justin, Class of 2010, Brandon, Class of 2020, and Jordan, Class of 2023.

why did you choose to partner with the school by creating an endowment? We want our endowment to help ensure that children who are traditionally under-represented in private schools have an op-portunity to receive a solid, college-prep education. the world is diverse, and we want landmark to better reflect that diversity.

what impact do you hope to have on prospective students? It is our hope that we will be able to provide those in need the opportunity to enrich their academic experience and to lay the foundation students need to be successful. While we realize that academics are important, we know that landmark helps

provide other fundamentals which aid in preparing students to impact their homes, their communities, and those all around to glorify Jesus Christ.

what long-term goal do you wish to achieve through your endowment? We hope to inspire others to give as well. We give to those less fortunate than ourselves. It is our hope that we inspire others through our example of giving. We know that it takes a village to raise children who can wholeheartedly represent the lord in all that they do. We must all take a part through donating our time and efforts and to also give financially when possible.

Campaign Impact’s impact goal #3 was created to establish permanent endowment funds that will generate additional streams of revenue, other than tuition and annual giving, to address long-term institutional priorities. These priorities include teacher awards and compensation, missions and international travel, need-based financial aid, and the care and maintenance of Landmark property. Below, Dr. Vaughn Clagette and his wife Tanyia share the reason why they decided to start an endowment at Landmark.

landmark grandparents have long held a position of respect within our school community. We salute those grandparents who were able to participate in the 2013-2014 Grandparent Campaign for Classroom technology. the 4th annual Grandparent Campaign was led by ms. diane minaberry whose grandchildren attend the peachtree City campus. this annual drive is helping to reshape the use of teaching technology in the school’s elementary, middle and high school classrooms.

ms. minaberry issued a matching gift challenge of $10,000 hoping to inspire other grandparent donors. as a result of everyone’s generosity, just over $30,000 was raised to add to, repair and/or replace technology around campus. Gifts were recorded according to the age of the youngest grandchild, and split evenly between the two campuses.

the Georgia Goal scholarship program was started in 2008 by decree of the state legislature. this program allows tax payers to pre-pay a portion of their state income tax to a non-profit student scholarship organization such as Georgia Goal. these funds are designated to students who wish to transfer from a public school in order to attend a participating private preparatory school such as landmark and who qualify for need-based tuition assistance. Georgia Goal then works with landmark to ensure that payment is made to lCs on behalf of that qualified student.

the following participated in the Georgia Goal tax credit program during the 2013 tax year contributing $66,090:
