Healing Acts of Christ
Leprosy and BlindnessWritten by Drelen Williams

And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
Mark 1:40

I learned that leprosy was very worse than what it appeared to be. Leprosy doesn’t just effect your
outside or physical appearance. Leprosy effects your nerves and you are prone to injuring yourself
without even knowing. Leprosy really attacks the nerves and tissues in your body. There really isn’t a cure for leprosy, but there are many different types of treatments to help the disease. There are two
types of leprosy which one is contagious and one is not. Dry leprosy is not contagious, but wet is. The difference between dry and wet leprosy is that dry leprosy effects the nerves. Wet leprosy is a bacteria that grows on the body that is easily transferable or
contagious.

In Leviticus chapter 13, the entire chapter speaks on leprosy. Leprosy as Christ stated was just a scab. Before Christ walked on the earth, leprosy was treated in a different manner. If a man had this scab or bright spot on his skin, he was supposed to be brought before the priest, or one of the sons of the priest.

The priest is to then examine the skin and if the hair was white and the plague be deeper than his skin, he is unclean. If the sight of the plague wasn't deeper than the skin, then the priest was to shut him up for seven days. Then, on the seventh day, the priest has to examine him again and if the plague was still dark but the skin was not affected, he shall be pronounced as clean. But, if the scab does spread throughout the skin, he has to see the priest again. If it spreads again, he will be pronounced unclean and will be shut up for seven days.

I think people were so desperate for Christ to heal them because leprosy really distorts your physical appearance. Leprosy makes people look older than what they are and sometimes depressed. In 2 Kings chapter 5 it's speaks about a man named Namaan who had the plague of leprosy.

Now Naaman was the captain of the host of the king of Syria. He
was a great man who was honored because the Lord gave deliverance to him unto Syria. Namaan was a mighty man. In
this chapter it talks about how he was sent off to be cleansed from his plague of leprosy because he
was a leper.

And great multitudes came unto him, having with them [those that were] lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:Insomuch
that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the
blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel. Matthew 15: 30-31

Blindness is something that occurs within the eyes, normally from birth. If you aren’t born blind, that doesn’t mean you can’t become blind later in life. The etiology of blindness or how it occurs is blindness is the lacking of vision due to physiological reasons. The pathogenesis of blindness or the cause of blindness could be a form of eye disease, inheritance, or maybe even diabetes in some cases.

The manifestations and effects that occur with blindness include discomfort within the eyes, irregular body sensations, and headaches often. Just because you are blind, doesn’t mean that there aren’t treatments to help you. Besides Braille, people who are visually impaired have cataract surgery tests, medications in the form of liquid, medications in the form of a pill, and much more. Even in some cases, studies state that the surgery sometimes restores their sight.

Recently this past week, I’ve been challenged to do the dishes while being blindfolded. Now, I really have some knowledge of how it feels to be blind all the time.

Being blind is very hard because you almost always have to depend on someone. You become very frustrated at times because you cannot see. The lives of the visually impaired really lie within the helper. Being blind is extremely hard to go through on an everyday basis!

I think the people were happy and blessed when Christ healed them from this because it really effected their
day to day lives. Christ showed a lot of mercy by healing these people because they could have been like this for life. Instead, Christ wanted to show the people
his many miracles and wonders by healing these people. Christ showed power by removing this
because no one else in the world has the power to remove plagues or diseases. The way he removed
leprosy from the few people proved that he was God.
