Before I dozed off in a chair in the “Quiet Room” downstairs at Gurney’s Sea Water Spa, Margarita, a 30-year massage veteran, greeted me, ever so gently and with orange-infused tea in hand, for my first ever seawater hydrotherapy massage.

Sitting in my own, personal Roman bath filled with filtered salt water, it started to bubble while Margarita ran a powerful hose across every inch of my skin.

“This is so good for your circulation and the salt water provides your body with lots of minerals, “Margarita explained, as I was nearly dozing off . . . again.

About twenty minutes later, after my body was Jell-O-like, Margarita handed me a warm, plush, sea foam green robe, grabbed my tea and escorted me next door for the second part of my treatment: a sea salt massage with warm lavender oil.

Afterward, Margarita offered me the choice of a regular shower or a Swiss shower. Feeling a bit adventurous, I opted for the Swiss shower, where dozens of small jets aimed at every area of the body shot out powerful streams of hot water, leaving my skin feeling clean and tingly.

These are some of the dozens of treatments available at the Montauk-based house of luxury year round.

Now that it’s a new year, ‘tis the season for many to put down the donuts, get rid of the soda and focus on a fitter, healthier self.

And Gurney’s is a perfect place to make all those dreams and hopes come true.

The fitness center, nestled toward the back of the Sea Water Spa at the resort runs from 7 AM to 8 PM seven days a week, 365 days a year. Classes begin at 8:10 AM and include everything from Zumba and spinning to water aerobics and Pilates. The

Last Wednesday, it was the Navy Road beach. The temperature cooperated and it was a still clear day. Looking across scenic Fort Pond Bay Prince asked, “Wouldn’t you rather be doing your squats here?”

Plus, experts point out the more you’re at home the more you tend to eat. Worse, the tendency is to eat fewer fresh foods and fruits and more canned or boxed products.

Go Hiking: The beaches are truly beautiful this time of the year. The ocean beaches, because of erosion, are constantly shifting, revealing more and more surprises. Collecting beach glass has become a new fad. There’s no better way to lose pounds.

Contrary to popular opinion the hiking trails are much more interesting during the winter. Lairs are revealed, it’s easier to sight brooks and streams, not to mention assorted creatures who inhabit the forest. Get yourself an insulated mug, pour in some soup or hot cocoa, and call one of the trails organizations and see for yourself.

Join A Gym: Most of the local gyms offer sensational winter deals: Planet Fitness, Body Tech, the YMCA in East Hampton, B-East, Hampton Gym Corp, Evolution Fitness and many more. Daily rates may be available, but take the package deal and get in the habit of going regularly, at least three times a week. You may want to consider an on-site trainer to work on a particular area

Everyone knows the East End is a summer paradise. Guess what? The winter is the prettiest time of the year.

Not coincidentally, winter is the time traditionally used by sun worshippers to get it bathing suit/bikini shape – here are some of the time-tested activities.

Ice-Skating: It’s amazing to realize folks have been ice-skating for centuries on Lake Agawam (Southampton), East Hampton Town Pond, Ryder’s Pond in North Haven, and dozens of other beautiful waterways all over the East End. In fact, there have been times when much of the Peconic Bay froze – people could drive cars from Long Beach in Noyac to Shelter Island. Speaking of which, Shelter Island has been frozen-in many, many times, with neither ferry operating.

During these extended freezing, ice-sailing is an amazing experience, and once was a popular pastime hereabou t s . Mecox Pond or Shinnecock Bay are two great places to enjoy.

huge tube up a hill, then enhancing agility by hopping in and out of the giant circle. Driftwood and logs that wash up are also used. So are tree branches and fences.

Because her classes are intense and comparatively brief, Prince believes they are perfect for the average woman’s busy lifestyle. “Because of the intensity, the whole rest of the day you’re energized and burning more calories,” she pointed out.

Cynics might wonder why a person needs a class if all the tools and venues are so readily available. Prince admitted that she does train her students so they can do the workouts alone, but added, “It’s always more fun to do it with others.”

Not to mention motivational. Prince challenges her students and crafts mini competitions for an extra push during classes.

Also motivating? She doesn’t charge anything, and simply accepts donations with no amount suggested. Why? “I believe fitness should be for everyone, not just those who can afford it.”

Monte and her team have done a lot of work to the spa to bring it up to the immaculate indulgence it is today.

When entering the spa, the peach floors and white walls immediately offer a calming sense, as does the noticeable view of the ocean right in front of you.

To the left of the reception is a small gift shop overlooking the Olympic-size saltwater pool, with all the organic products used by staff available for purchase. The newest lines include Voya, a seaweed-based line from Ireland.

Back on the right side is the Ocean View Salon, a full service skin care, nail, waxing and hair salon.

This is where I ended my day of beauty and relaxation with an ocean radiance facial.
