PURPOSE & GOALS of the

Management Internship

• To expose the student to a Real-Life, Real-

Time Healthcare Environment.

• To allow the student to associate the class

work and textbook with actual healthcare work

situations.

• To work with a healthcare manager to observe

how healthcare decisions are actually made.

• To experience the day-to-day routine of the healthcare environment.

• To observe and understand the various

organizational components and how they relate.

• To provide the student with an opportunity to be responsible for management/planning/policy activities.

• To give the student an opportunity to develop a relationship with an executive mentor.

• To continue developing skills related to:

– Problem Solving,

– Supervisory and Management functions,

– Customer Satisfaction and Quality.

• To increase the student’s exposure to possible career opportunities and prepare the students for their first job.

• To have some fun.

PROCESS:Make Contact with Potential Internship

Organization

• Submit an Application for Approval of Internship

to Program Director.

• Program Director will provide contact info.

• Student sends a cover letter and resume.

• Follow up with a phone call.

• Student is processed just like an employee.

• Program Director is notified of situation and

problems.

TIME FRAME

• Internships run each semester.

• Process begins the semester before the

Internship class.

• Should have plans solidified by end of

term.

EXPECTATIONS

• Spend a Total of 240 hours for the semester onsite. (120 hours for Clinical students).

• Prepare an Internship Project Paper (12-15 pages).

• Present a PowerPoint Presentation at the end of the Semester.

• Successfully pass the Exit Exam.

• Act in a professional manner throughout the internship period.
