October is designated National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The American Cancer Society recommends yearly mammograms starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health. As well as clinical breast exams (CBE) about every 3 years for women in their 20s and 30s and every year for women 40 and over. In an effort to help provide preventative care solutions, Centerpoint offers walk- in screening mammograms for all employees. The Breast Center at Centerpoint has the latest in digital technology and Mammopads ® , providing more comfort for patients during the screening process. Every patient will receive a follow- up results call within one business day. All Breast Center Technologists have advanced registries in mammography. As the certified Breast Center Navigator, Conni James, RN, acts as a guide to help the patient navigate the system. Screenings are conducted on a walk-in basis, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. No order is necessary and employees must be at least 35 years of age. If the employee is having symptoms a doctor’s order must be provided and an appointment must be scheduled by calling 816-836-6686. Registration is required through the outpatient center in the medical office building. Registration for scheduled appointments can be completed online prior to the visit on the Centerpoint website, centerpointmedical.com. The entire process will take about 30 minutes to complete, but could make a life-saving difference. Breast Cancer Awareness Month Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Centerpoint Medical Center has formed a team for the 2012 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Kansas City, MO on Saturday, October 27, 2012. Sign up for the Centerpoint Team and Win! The department with the most walkers signed up wins a dessert tray for their floor. The staff member raising the most money for our Centerpoint team will win a pizza lunch for their department! Raffle tickets will be sold outside the cafeteria on October 17, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. for a chance to win a gift basket stuffed with wonderful prizes. Raffle tickets are $1 each. Cookies will also be on sale for $2 and pink wristbands for $3 during that time. Visit makingstrideskansascity.org and sign up to walk with the Centerpoint team. Start raising funds or recruiting fellow co-workers to walk with our team. Join us and together we will walk for a world without breast cancer. Preventing and detecting breast cancer early can help save more lives. October is designated National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The American Cancer Society recommends yearly mammograms starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health. As well as clinical breast exams (CBE) about every 3 years for women in their 20s and 30s and every year for women 40 and over.

In an effort to help provide preventative care solutions, Centerpoint offers walk-in screening mammograms for all employees. Campaign Week Events:

October 22 -25: “O Challenge” Purchase $1 raffle tickets to win prizes from our “O’s”.

October 23-26: Pumpkin Decorating Contest Vote with your change for the best decorated pumpkins! (Pumpkins available for pick-up from the dock on Friday October 19. Deliver pumpkins to the cafeteria by 11 a.m., October 23 for judging.)

October 25: Chili Cook-Off• Enter your best chili recipe in our cook-off and bring

plenty of samples for judging. Entries will be judged for $2 outside the cafeteria between 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

• Administration will be visiting the evening shift offering an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for the “O challenge”.

October 26: Casual Friday• For a $5 donation employees can wear jeans. Visit

the HR office prior to Friday, October 26, to pay and receive your Hope+More sticker.

• Drawings for the winners of the “O Challenge” raffle and Pumpkin Decorating Contest will take place at 2 p.m., winners will be notified.

Hope Fund and the United Way Each year, Centerpoint Medical Center employees show their support to fellow employees and to individuals and agencies in our community through generous donations to our HCA Hope Fund and our local United Way.

This year, our Hope Fund/United Way Campaign will run October 22-26 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the cafeteria. The Hope Fund helps HCA families and is run and supported by employees. The fund helps employees with situations such as illnesses, injuries, disasters and other special circumstances like domestic violence and death of a loved one.

The HCA Foundation will match $500 gifts dollar for dollar. The total amount the Foundation will match for all employee gifts is $200,000. Employees in our own hospital have been helped by the Hope Fund. All donations made through the Hope + More campaign are tax deductible. The easiest way to give is through payroll deduction, but you can also give by check, credit card or stock donation.

To make your donation, go to www.easymatch.com/hcahope or complete a donation form available in Human Resources and return the form to HR. Watch your e-mail here at work and your mail at home for more information about the campaign. Thank you in advance for your support.

It is time once again to get your annual flu vaccine! Even healthy people can get the flu and it can be serious. Everyone six months and older should get a flu vaccine. This year Centerpoint will provide the flu vaccine outside the cafeteria during the following dates and times:

Employees and Physicians: October 20: 7 a.m. - 11 a.m. (Saturday clinics are for employ-ees working weekends)

Volunteers, Employees and Physicians: October 9, 10, 15, 17 & 22: 7 a.m. - 10 a.m. Family, Employees, Physicians and Volunteers:October 9, 10 & 16: 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. In order to receive the vaccine you must fill out a form before you arrive. Please use the following directions to complete your form.

• Go to the Intranet HCA home page on the upper right side of the page and click on HCA links.

• After clicking on HCA links, when it opens up click onAtlas 2. When Atlas2 opens up go to the lower right side of the page to 2012/2013 Influenza Vaccine Form. Click on the place that says “Click here to fill out the form”.

• Click on the top left of the page to Influenza Vaccine Form. The prompts will guide you through the process.

• Answer all the requested questions on the computer form then print a copy of the form.

Note: Family members ARE NOT to try to enter theirinformation at the Atlas site.

Friday Night Lights in Independence Dr. Gregory Ballard, MD and Dr. Lori Ann Boyajian-O’Neill, DO are proud to serve the Independence community every Friday night on the football field as team physicians for Truman and William Chrisman High Schools.

Attending every home game, Dr. Ballard and Dr. Boyajian-O’Neill provide assistance with prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities to the athletes.

Centerpoint families attending Truman or William Chrisman High School football games, be sure to stop by and say hello and thank Dr. Ballard and Dr. Boyajian-O’Neill for their support of our community!
