New Client Collaboration Role
• We are appointing a Client Collaboration & Delivery Manager
• This role will report to the Head of Infrastructure and will be a member of the HEAnet Management Team.
• The fundamental objective of this role is to ensure that HEAnet is delivering services that support the business of our clients.

Shared Services: IReL
• IReL – “Irish Research eLibrary” is a nationally funded electronic research library, initially conceived to support researchers in Biotechnology and Information Technology in mid-summer 2004 (STM phase),
• Following on the success of the STM phase, IReL expanded in 2006 to support research in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS phase).
• IReL was managed from UCD until Spring of 2014, and came under the HEAnet umbrella in April 2014.
• Full integration with HEAnet in 2015.

• A resilient, geographically distributed web platform that is scalable for network, compute and storage capacity;
• Built on virtual machines running Ubuntu Linux and utilising our EduStorage SANs;
• SLA of 99.95% availability;
• NOC support Monday – Friday 9am-5:30pm.
Expanded Web Hosting
• Self-managed Client Portal for hosting small to medium websites;
• Clients can create and manage Databases, Applications (Drupal, Wordpress, MediaWikietc.) all at the click of a button;
• Access can be provided to other stakeholders (including 3rd party developers) with varying levels of authorisation.

RMAN Project
• This project is essential for the future of the network for the next 10 years.
• The existing metro equipment is nearing end of life. Over 10 years old and possibly 12 by the time we finish the project.
• We are seeking €5 Million infrastructure funding from the HEA for this project.
• Project has been approved by the HEA – for presentation to DES , we need to make this happen in 2015-2017.

• Rolling out 100Mbit/s broadband connections to everypost-primary school - on behalf of DCENR & DES.
• HEAnet manage the core network & security services aswell as project-managing the procurement process.
• Fibre & wireless links are provided by: enet, Airspeed,Digiweb, eircom, Vodafone, UPC & Imagine.
• Installation & support services are provided by AgileNetworks.
• The project is now completed with connections delivered toover 800 post-primary school locations
• HEAnet have delivered this programme on behalf of theIrish Government ahead of schedule and under budget.

• Connecting schools to HEAnet serves to leverage the publicinvestment in the HEAnet education and research networkto date.
• In leveraging this investment, HEAnet are very grateful tothose Higher Education Institutes that are facilitatingaccess to their campus locations
• thus enabling delivery of cost-effective backhaul to schoolsfrom regional areas.
• National transit of schools traffic is also being facilitated byESB Telecoms which underpins a significant portion of theHEAnet backbone.

Governance Review
• In keeping with Good Governance practice
– Mazars were appointed to undertake Governance Review
• Mazars noted that HEAnet had good governance practices in place
• some improvements required to ensure adequate renewal of Board composition and to facilitate risk management.
• Also improvements required around documentation
– to document governance processes already in existence or to communicate such processes to stakeholders.
