On April 16th, the Lord
brought Rabbi Kokeb, Juanita
Weiss, Aminta Colon, and me to
Ethiopia to show us firsthand His
beloved people and their
suf erings , hardships, poverty, and
needs. Through the streets of
Gondar, we shared the sometimes
paved but mostly dirt and rocky
roads with sheep, bulls, goats,
cows, roosters, dogs, scooter taxis,
and people walking for miles to
their destinations. Along the
streets
sat
men
and
women
under
the hot and beating sun, trying to
sell
their
goods
to
earn
a
day’s
wage of $1. City homes were
rarely
more
than
a
small
one-room
mud or metal structure with a
metal roof, door, and windows.
Most village homes were nothing
more than small, sparse one room
huts surrounded by cow dung
patties for fuel and fire. Along the
roads were women traveling for
miles with yellow water jugs on
their heads or shoulders filled with
polluted, bacteria-infested water.
Yet there in the midst of all this
poverty and hardship stood the
presence of the Lord, reminding us
that
the
Light
is
greater
than
the
darkness; that He had sent us here
on
a
mission;
that
He
would
accomplish His purposes and bring
hope
and
a
future
to
the
hopeless.

GOD GAVE THIS LAND TO US!
On April 20th we set foot for
the first time on the land the Lord
had given us. It was huge, 1 1/2
hectares, beautiful, strong enough
to support a skyscraper, perfect for
the children that the Lord would
bring here to live, study, learn of
Him. We walked the land, praising
the Lord, praying, and then
rejoicing in the Lord for His
goodness and mercy.
During our meeting with the
authorities, the transfer of land
was approved and accomplished.
While the government no longer
allows orphanages to be built on
their land, the Lord made a way by
having us apply as a boarding
school, which will accomplish the
same purposes. We were granted
permission to bring in orphans
even from birth. In Ethiopia we will
be known as Israel International
Academy & Heart of My Heart
Orphanage.
We had two meetings with the
architect to discuss and finalize the
changes God put on our hearts.
God’s
‘boarding
school’
will
house,
feed, nurture, care for, love, and
teach
children
from
birth
through
the completion of high school.
The only surprise was that the
well for this land will cost about
$80,000. The rocks and drought
require machine-dug wells and at
a depth of 70 meters. The
surveyor believes that only one
well
will
meet
all
our
needs,
including our future farm.
THE HEART OF GOD!
The Lord brought us to the
Beta
Y’srael
village
Rabbi
Kokeb
visited last summer. As everyone
gathered
under
the
shade
of
the
tree, we shared God’s love for
them
and
why
He
sent
us,
reminding them to hold tight to
the truth that He had not forgotten
or forsaken them. I sang the song
of hope the Lord gave me for this
day, “I AM Coming” and Rabbi
Kokeb translated. Seeing the
poverty, emaciated bodies, and
shoeless feet left us broken and
crying out to God for help.
The Lord led us to another Beta
Y’srael
village
where
once
again
starvation, poverty, thirst, and
disease
prevailed.
Once
again
the
Lord used us to bring His love and
hope to these precious people as
they wait to immigrate to Israel.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
The Lord enabled us to
accomplish
all
that
He
had
put
on
our hearts and more. The land is
ours; the plans are finalized; first
steps have been revealed; contacts
have been made; orphans and poor
children have been given bread,
water, shoes, and clothes; the
situation and needs are clear;
orphans and foster parents have
been identified; costs are better
understood; monetary aid has been
given; and relationships and
partnerships have been formed.
Most importantly, the Beta Y’srael
have seen and been touched by the
love and hope of Yeshua.
“Te poor and t e needy search for war,but there is none; their tongues ar e parched wi t t irst, but I t e LORD wi l answer t em; I, t e GOD of Israel, wi l n ot forsake t em.” ( Isaiah 41:17 )
