Maximum Comfort All Year Round

Heat pumps are flexible to their requirement, providing a reliable temperature, with flexibility for every season. Furthermore, sound emissions are minimal due to acoustic protected fans and compressors. Personnel can work in complete comfort all year round with absolutely no disturbance.

Investment For Your Property

Every commercial building now has to be compliant with energy saving legislations proving how carbon emissions are being reduced. With heat pump technology, building owners can actively show such savings in energy consumption, proving to be especially suitable for new builds or refurbishments, further improving the present and future value of a property.

60% Reduction in CO2 Emissions

For the management of comfort cooling within a building, heat pumps are ideal as they can provide heating and cooling as well as hot water. 75% of the energy used to power heat pumps directly comes from the environment which means only 25% of the power supply is used. This low energy consumption has seen reductions in CO2 emissions of up to 60% compared to traditional systems.

Features and Benefits

One single heat pump unit can offer a vast range of advantages to any commercial or residential building. In addition to energy efficiency, flexibility is one of a heat pump’s key attributes with the ability to provide heating, cooling and domestic hot water for a site.

Domestic Hot Water Production (DHW2)

DHW2 models all offer free domestic hot water thanks to the exclusive total heat recovery system. Within residential buildings, this unit can remove heat and humidity from the property during the cooling cycle. During the heating cycle, the system will remove heat from the outside air and transfer into the building.

When in cooling mode, the system will reduce the fluid’s temperature and transfer the heat to another fluid, air, water or ground. Thanks to this process, heat isn’t wasted and instead re-used for other processes.

Silent Operation

Compressors are jacketed and insulated which significantly reduces vibrations and sound emissions. For indoor units, specially designed acoustic panels are fitted providing the lowest noise emissions on the market.

Temperatures Down to -20°C

Heat Pumps can be installed in the most extreme climate conditions, evenin areas where temperatures drop to as low as -20°C.

Thanks to high quality internal components and skilled manufacturing, ICS Cool Energy heat pumps go far beyond the limits of traditional units.

Case Study: New Build Achieves BREEAM Goal With ICS Cool Energy’s Heat Pumps

A new social enterprise build in Derbyshire was looking to achieve a BREEAM accreditation in line with ‘a very good rating’ at minimum with ambitions for ‘excellent’; using 10% renewable energy to help achieve this goal. The facility houses administration offices, laundry facilities and community daytime areas as well as external gardens. The two storey building is heated by a central boiler plant with a facility for each residential unit to be separately controlled.

ICS Cool Energy’s Heat Pumps division worked on the project directly with the consultants, supplying two DeLonghi electric air to water heat pumps. Unlike ‘air to air’ heat pumps which heat air within a building, they heat water which can be circulated around a traditional low temperature heating system such as under floor heating. Recently, this technology has seen much improvement and allows for a conventional under floor heating system without the need for boilers. Air to water systems now can provide low pressure hot water at 65°C which is suitable for localised hot water production to feed an under floor heating system.

When comparing this air to water heat pump system with a traditional gas boiler, the energy saving efficiencies are evident:

Gas Boiler Heat Pump

Load (kW) 185 185

Annual Heat Output (kWhr) 383361 383361

Seasonal Efficiency (ESEER) 0.8 3.5

Annual Heat Input (kWhr) 479202 109532

Carbon Emission (KgCo2) 87971 59208

With the installation of the four heat pump systems, the new social enterprise facility will see a saving (based on an electric cost of 6.4p/kWhr) of £4,490 per year with payback in as little as seven years.

Intelligent Control System

Cutting edge components and an intelligent central control system guarantees maximum reliability. This allows for communication between components; eliminating inefficiencies and simplifying the installation which reduces maintenance checks.

Existing heating systems can easily be integrated with the new heat pump making the most of the renewable energy source.

Simple Installation

ICS Cool Energy heat pumps range from low temperature systems based on radiant floor or fan coils to more traditional systems with radiators. All units utilise this simple and flexible install. Furthermore, maintenance requirements are reduced thanks to the use of sealed factory-tested refrigerant circuits.

Utilising Natural Resources With Heat Pump TechnologyAir, water and ground source heat pumps provide powerful and reliable energy sources for maintaining consistent temperatures throughout homes and businesses. These precious thermal sources work with heat pumps to ensure reduced energy expenses and complete sustainable systems. Heat pump performances are rated as a Co-Efficient of Performance otherwise known as COP. This measures how much heat is generated per unit of electricity used to drive the heat pump. An efficient system should give a COP of three or more. Another measure of performance is the System Efficiency Ratio (SER) which measures the amount of heat the pump is producing for each unit of electricity required to run the entire heating system.

Based on use in the typical UK climate, the average COP level for air, water and ground source heat pumps can be as high as four which is highly efficient, showing units which can generate a large amount of heat energy for a site.

The graph shown below indicates how much different types of energy sources cost per 10kW based on a COP of 3.2 for air

source and 3.8 for ground source.

Which Renewable Source Is Right For You?

Air

Air source heat pumps work by transferring heat from the atmosphere at low temperatures into a fluid. Using energy from external air provides an easy solution for the production of domestic hot water, heating and cooling.

Air source units can lower fuel bills and reduce maintenance costs especially if it is replacing a conventional electric heating system. High performances can be increased by the adoption of inverter technology available in the i-KIR units.

Water

Water source heat pumps provide high heat transfer with a fast flow circulation allowing for constant energy replacement. Lakes, ponds, rivers, springs, wells and boreholes are all important energy sources. Water source units do not need trenches which reduces the cost of installation. Furthermore these units provide the highest performance levels whilst reducing energy consumption as much as 50%.

Ground

Ground source heat pumps utilise pipes buried in the ground to absorb thermal energy from the earth. The ground stays at a fairly constant temperature under the surface, so the heat pump can be used throughout the year even in areas with harsh winters.

Ground source units can now adapt to every soil type thanks to extensive research and development. These units are ideal for use with radiators, under floor heating, warm air systems and hot water.

Electronic Control for Clever System ManagementICS Cool Energy offer DeLonghi’s state of the art Nadi system allowing for integration and communication between different system components which eliminates inefficiencies, simplifying installation and reducing the number of controllers.

Moreover, this innovative controller actively monitors the water outlet temperature prioritising the renewable energy to provide capacity to meet the building load. This ensures maximum optimisation for energy consumption.

Customised Time Bands

Six daily time bands are available to allow the users to personalise temperatures for seasonal periods or when a building is empty. Customised activation and deactivation features are available for each individual zone of the system, helping to reduce energy usage and therefore costs.

Managing Energy Sources

The Nadi System has the ability to control when energy is consumed and where it is sourced from. Based on the availability, efficiency and cost. The controller always gives priority to the renewable source.

Supplementary energy sources are used to meet the building’s requirements when outside temperatures are low by increasing the heating capacity of the heat pump.

Intelligent Control

For residential applications, there are flexible operating features which are offered to control the secondary circuits, activating the pumps and valves depending on the room temperature set on the remote keypad.

There are 15 different pre-configured settings for easy installation with the ability to manage up to five remote keypads for controlling thermal loads. Cascade control of up to four heat pumps allows for precise control over the capacity which is delivered without affecting performance.
