Over the last three decades, engi-neers in utilities and industry aroundthe world have specified million’s ofRaychem cable terminations atdistribution voltages up to 36 kV.Raychem terminations have becomeidentified with reliability because oftheir unparalleled long-term perfor-mance – where it really counts – inthe field. Today there are manychanges influencing the distributionof power at medium voltages. Forexample, the transition to new typesof polymeric cable, distribution athigher voltages, and the widespreadusage of compact switchgear.

Anticipating these industry changes,we have continued to extend andimprove the product range, based onthe extensive experiece both in thefield and at our outdoor test sites inpolluted and desert environments.Now these developments are incorporated in a new generation ofRaychem heat-shrinkable cable termi-nations, that are even easier to selectand install, without compromisingthe reliability of proven materialstechnology. The improved system issimple to use, because the basic ter-mination components and installationsteps are the same – even if your net-work operates with voltages of 7.2 to36 kV; if you use 12 kV belted papercable and 24 kV water-blocked singlecore polymeric cable; whether youmake equipment connections in acable box or in compact switchgear.Let’s review the main advantages ofthe improved system:

The Raychem termination system is compatible with all types ofarmoured cable. The system includes a completerange of solderless accessories forearthing insulation screens and cable armour and for grounding lead sheaths. Also available are insulators and support brackets, insulating boots for equipment connections and glands for easyentry to cable boxes. All our indoor terminations for poly-meric or paper insulated cables can be used with RICS (RaychemInsulated Connection System). The RICS, fully insulated, right-angleand straight adapters make it easy toconnect any type of cable to moderncompact electrical equipment. A special RICS, accommodating aZnO Surge Arrester is now availableas well as a low profile, one piececable termination (IXSU-F), designedspecifically for applications with verylimited clearances between phases.

We offer the universal jointing system for all types of paper andpolymeric cable up to 36 kV. Thesame system allows transition jointsbetween different tree-core papercable and transitions from paper topolymeric cables. Trifurcations withany combination of cables are alsoeasy with the Raychem jointing system.
