SOCIAL WORKER @ THE BAYIT:

Shira Felberbaum, LMSW, MS, a licensed social

worker of The Jewish Board, offers individuals and

families of the Bayit short-term supportive

counseling, information, and referrals to

additional sources of ongoing support. She provides confidential consultations at no fee to

congregants on a variety of matters pertaining to

personal and professional transitions (e.g. illness,

bereavement, caregiving, divorce, retirement,

infertility, marriage, birth, adoption, unemployment or underemployment) as

well as life challenges (e.g. special needs, mental illness, addiction and

recovery, elder abuse, domestic violence, lack of financial resources for food

and shelter). Shira also co-facilitates support groups and moderates

educational workshops. Working in collaboration with the shul’s clergy,

administration, and lay leaders, she helps address emerging concerns,

developing programs that meet the needs of the community. Shira is

passionate about helping to strengthen warm, inclusive, and caring Jewish

communities. She can be reached by email at

appointment on most Wednesdays and Thursdays. Shira is available

to the HIR community as a result of the Partners in Caring (PIC) grant

CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY The Bayit is pleased to partner with UJA-Federation to offer our

members the opportunity to invest in a charitable gift annuity. When

you do so, you receive guaranteed income for life, a potential

immediate tax deduction, and possible future tax savings.

Ultimately, the Bayit will receive 90% of the remainder value, while

10% will go to UJA-Federation to support its efforts for the entire

Jewish community and to help cover the administrative costs of the

Bedzin Exhibit: January 21st-26th

The exhibit "Life and Death in the Bedzin Ghetto" will be

featured for the first time on the East Coast, this January, at the

Hebrew Institute of Riverdale. Learn about the story of the

young people of the Polish city of Bedzin before, during, and

after the Holocaust. Only a few of them survived.

The opening event will be on January 21st from 2pm-5pm.

Alvin Fensterheim-Memorial Gathering

Alvin's son Len and grandson Nathan will be at CSAIR, 475 West

250th Street, Bronx, NY 10471 this Monday, December 25 at

7:30pm. They will be at minyan and will remain at shul in the

library until 9:00pm to share stories about Alvin.

End of Year Giving

Thank you to all those who have made gifts to the Bayit in the

past few weeks. Account statements were emailed and mailed

during the past week that included charges for 2018 dues.

Please note the following information for making contributions

before the end of 2017:

Credit card payments can be processed in the office until noon

on Friday, December 29th.

You can make a payment online until midnight on Sunday,

December 31st at www.thebayit.org/donate.php.

Checks must be dated and postmarked no later than

December 31st, 2017 and received in the mail by Monday,

January 8th. Checks can also be brought to the office until

December 29th or left in the drop box outside the office

until December 31st.

FAMILY FUN DAY: Join us for Family Fun Day, 12/25/2017. Come watch Moana, Lego Batman and Princess Bride in our theater,

jump in our bounce-house, work out in the gym, or go for a swim (don't forget your swim cap). The Y will be open from 8am to

4pm, with activities from 10am to 2pm. A suggested donation of $20 per family helps provide scholarships to families in need.

SARAH LILY ADOPTION FUND: As part of its mission to strengthen families, and promote Jewish identity and continuity, The

Riverdale Y has established the Sarah Lily Fund for Adoption that provides two $5,000 grants annually to help Jewish families in

Metropolitan New York being formed by adoption. Applications are considered in May and November. For more information

YINR MEMBER IN NEED OF LIVER TRANSPLANT: Uri Landesman, a long-time YINR member, needs a liver transplant

and has begun a search for a donor. He is seeking a living donor between the ages 18-55, with type O or A2 blood and a healthy

liver. The procedure involves having three of five liver lobes (60% of most livers) removed, 90% of which is regenerated within six

weeks. Hospitalization following the procedure averages five days and most donors are back to work within three weeks. While

compensation cannot be provided for this great act of kindness, reimbursement will be provided for any uninsured medical

L'DOR V'DOR SUMMER INTERNSHIP: The Hebrew Home at Riverdale is accepting applications for their L’Dor V’Dor

Summer Internship, an innovative, fun and meaningful four week program for Jewish teenagers. Interns volunteer at the Hebrew

Home, connect with residents, and attend educational seminars & workshops. L’Dor V’Dor will be held from July 2 - July 27,

Monday - Friday from 9:00am – 5:00pm. Participants are selected on the basis of their application, interview, and references.
