Die Cravenweek vind ge-durende die eerste week van die vakansie, in Witrivier, by Hoërskool Rob Ferreira, plaas en die hokkietoernooi vind vanaf 5-9 Julie in Pietermaritzburg plaas. Ons is baie trots op Luke, wat die WP op buitesenter sal verteenwoordig. Hy verteenwoordig ook so elke leerder en onderwyser van ons skool. Ons wens jou alle sterkte toe, Luke, want jy is ‘n seun wat alles na die beste van jou ver-moëns doen en as kaptein van die Stellies Tigersspan is jy ‘n ware inspirasie vir die mede-skoliere.
Laerskool Stellenbosch het in die tweede kwartaal begin blikkieskos insamel na hulle oor die projek in die Eikestadnuus gelees het. Die insameling is deur ‘n onderwyser, Carine Mocke, en die skool se leerlingraad gedryf. Die skool het in slegs drie dae dit reggekry om 1601 blikkies in te samel. Graad 3B het 180 blikkies ingesamel en is as die wenklas bekroon.

Twee junior debatspanne van die Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof het deurgedring na die finale rondte van die ATKV se Nasionale Debatskompetisie wat op 22 Augustus by die Goudini Spa naby Worcester gehou word.
Die Bloemhof Accelerando Koor het uitstekend by die Tygerberg Eisteddfod gevaar. Hulle het ‘n Cum Laude en ‘n gemiddelde persentasie van 92% behaal.
Christina Beer, Jeanne van den Heever en Talyah Greyling het 100% vir Unisa graad 3 musiekteorie gekry.. Hulle was die drie topkandidate landswyd in verlede jaar se Unisa musiekteorie graad 3-eksamen. Alene Holder het 98% vir Unisa graad 5 musiekteorie gekry was een van die twee topkandidate landswyd in verlede jaar se Unisa musiekteorie graad 5-eksamen. Wilmie Cronjé behaal 99% vir haar graad 4-eksamen en is onder die top 3 in die land. Al dié leerders ontvang elkeen ‘n Hennie Joubert Merieteprys.

STUDENT EXCELS IN ENGLISH OLYMPIADSomerset College is very proud of Manu Huyssen (Grade 12) who has been ranked in the top 15 in the De Beers English Olympiad. 7500 students wrote this exam.
The English Olympiad is a joint initiative of the South Africa Council for English Education and the Grahamstown Foundation.
The themes and examinations are designed to encourage young people to develop and express valuable opinions as part of the conversation that is needed to build a nation of critical thinkers.
SOMERSET COLLEGE MUSIC MAESTRO COMPETITION
MARITA VAN DER VYVER BESOEK HOËRSKOOL STRAND UNIVERSITEIT VAN KAAPSTAD WISKUNDE-KOMPETISIE
The annual Somerset College Music Maestro Competition was held last month. The competition is open to musicians in Grades 7 to 12 living in the Helderberg and Boland area. There are two categories; Classical (Instrumental & Vocal) and Jazz (Instrumental & Vocal). Forty entries were received from a number of schools in the area. Auditions were held for entrants and four people from each category (Junior and Senior) were selected to play in a concert. During this concert the two top performing musicians were selected from each category to perform in the Prize Winners’ Concert.
The winners were:• Classical (Senior) - 1st place - Seung-Ree Lee (piano) and 2nd place - David Wolfswinkel (clarinet)• Classical (Junior) - 1st place - Lara Swanepoel (soprano) and 2nd place - Gerhard Joubert (piano)• Jazz (Senior) - 1st place - Aidan Garth Lewis (voice) and 2nd place - Michael Burke (saxophone)• Jazz (Junior) - 1st place - Elena Mitchell (voice)
Prizes were sponsored by Musikhaus W Heuer and Paul Bothner Music.
Die welbekende skryfster, Marita van der Vyver, het op Maandag 18 Mei die graad 10-leerders van Hoërskool Strand kom trakteer met ‘n heerlike lusmakertjie uit haar nuwe boek, Swemlesse vir Meerminne. Verder het sy met die leerders gesels oor een van haar vorige boeke, Die Avonture van Hanna Hoekom, wat deur hierdie graad as voorgeskrewe boek gelees en behandel word. Die leerders het die geleentheid om vrae aan die skryfster te vra deeglik benut en ook terdeë geniet. Dit was ‘n heerlike voorreg om deur
iemand so bekend toegespreek te word. ‘n Verdere heerlikheid was die natuurlike manier waarmee sy met die leerders oor kwessies rakende die boek op hulle vlak kon gesels. Na die gesprek is enige mens lus om die volgende boek te verslind!Ansela Burger het die skryfster namens die skool bedank vir ‘n genotvolle, maar leersame stukkie skooldag. Liezel Simon het ook ‘n kort onderhoud met die skryfster vir die skoolkoerant, Die Suid-Ooster, gevoer.
Die Universiteit van Kaapstad se wiskunde kompetisie het op 16 April plaasgevind. 8800 leerders van 171 skole het deelgeneem. Hoërskool Strand is aangewys as een van die topskole met ‘n algehele twintigste posisie uit die 171 skole. Op die foto is die toppresteerders van Hoërskool Strand.

WISKUNDE-OLIMPIADE Parel Vallei se Wiskundeleerders het weereens uitstekend gepresteer in die Universiteit van Kaapstad se Wiskunde-olimpiade. ‘n Rekordgetal van 170 Wes-Kaapse skole het aan die kompetisie deelgeneem waarin Parel Vallei vierde
geëindig het! Op die foto verskyn die 8 Parel Valleiers wat goue toekennings verwerf het. (Die posisie wat hulle in die kompetisie behaal het, word na hul name aangedui).

word om in kykNET se programme en ‘n toneelverwerking van Fiela se Kind op te tree. As deel van die eindronde is oudisies vir radiodrama by RSG se ateljee ook opgeneem. BAIE GELUK LIAM ons is geweldig trots op jou!

WAKEBOARDINGMegan competed in the CASA ( Cable Association of South Africa) wakeboarding competition, which was held over the weekend of 16 and 17 May 2015, at Blue Rock quarry in Sir Lowry’s Pass. This was the third and final leg for the year and also the final for Nationals. Megan came 2nd in the Cable Wakeboarding Nationals.
KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP Anke, a Grade 12 learner at Rhenish Girls’ High, won Gold in Kumite at the Zone 6 Karate Championship in Johannesburg over the weekend of 29 -31 May.
IRISH DANCINGSome Rhenish Girls’ High School learners participated in the Cape Town Irish Dance Championship held in Stellenbosch on Saturday, 9 May 2015.
