Even at a young age, Helena Hauk
showed an unwavering
commitment to a strong work ethic
and business development. A
stalwart in FFA, at 13 Helena
wrestled livestock and champion
debaters while also working part-
time. After high school she jumped
right into hospitality management.
At 19 she became one of the
youngest Directors of Membership,
Activities & Marketing at the
Houston Club, one of Houston’s
premier social clubs. From there
she pursued her interests in
Economic Development working
for the Calgary Chamber of
Commerce and then serving as the
Executive Director for the Kyle
Chamber of Commerce at just 23
years old.
Helena’s commitment to economic
development, project management
and marketing skills, and ability to
connect with a variety of people

lending Helena joined CCDC,
helping them open up a new
market in San Antonio, Texas
while learning the ins and outs of
SBA lending.
While at the CCDC Helena saw
that, in addition to funding, many
of the businesses she helped
needed quality assistance
managing the projects funded and
strategically planning out the
resulting growth. It was also during
this time that Accion, a multistate
nonprofit that consults and assists
small businesses with their financing
needs, contacted Helena. With
Accion as a partner Helena saw an
opportunity not only to support and
encourage small business
development, but to also make her
dream of becoming an entrepreneur
a reality.
So in 2009 Helena decided to take
her expertise and launch 5th Gear
Consulting, a business consulting
firm specializing in business finance
and strategic growth. Since her
launch Helena has helped dozens of
businesses grow and facilitated over

education a significant part of her
company’s focus. Through articles,

helps to educate lenders, real estate
professionals, and small business
owners on the opportunities available
through the SBA. Helena is also
passionate about leadership and
frequently mentors and educates
