Tel Aviv Museum of Art Homage to Avigdor Arikha: Self-Portraits & Illustrations. 04 Sep - 04 Dec 2010This two-part exhibition is presented as homage to Avigdor Arikha, who died this year at the age of 81. The first part, planned with the artist before his death, includes illustrations to S.Y. Agnon’s “A Stray Dog,” combining the creative work of Arikha and Agnon. It was published by Tarshish in 1960. The illustrations in various techniques well represent Arikha’s art in the 1950s, beginning with the figurative style and ending with abstract painting. This part of the exhibition was prepared in
collaboration with the Agnon House, Jerusalem. The second part of the exhibition includes 18 self-portraits painted by Arikha between 1948 and 2001. Compared with earlier portraits, which depict the artist as a soldier or a pianist, the later ones deal with his artistic oeuvre as a painter and as an observer of his work, set against the studio milieu and its appurtenances. More than anything else, Arikha focused in his last years on his own posture and facial expression, seeking to capture the animate and the inanimate, with an almost defeatist awareness of the inability of art to seize the transient.

Martin Buber, the Marx Brothers, George Gershwin, Sarah Bernhardt, Louis Brandeis and Gertrude Stein. This series of famous Jewish personalities is part of 600 portraits of cultural idols, Americans and others, created by Warhol. Warhol's combination of lines and colors is especially striking and gives the portraits their unique quality. The project was initiated by Ronald Feldman, a New York Gallery owner, who was impressed by Warhol's work which was based on a press photograph of Golda Meir.. The present display of Andy Warhol's series of portraits at Beit Hatfutsot, offers an additional perspective inspired by the pop-art culture that influenced Israeli artists such as David Tartakover, Yigal Tumarkin, Hanoch Piven and Shai Abadi. The works of the Israeli artists displayed at the exhibition, consist of sketches, posters and collages of Israeli cultural idols and famous figures from the Jewish world complimenting the work of Warhol.Beit Hatfutsot - Museum of the Jewish People The Lady Sarah Cohen Exhibition Hall.
Tel Aviv Museum of Art:David Lachapelle: Postmodern Pop PhotographyA selection from the works of provocative photographer David LaChapelle (b. Connecticut, 1963) is
exhibited in Israel for the first time, giving a comprehensive view of his unique and daring style of the past twenty years. Alongside familiar subversive photographs originally commissioned for fashion and celebrity editorials, the show explores LaChapelle’s personal projects, created recently as part of his artistic and critical expression. Here he seeks to juxtapose contrasting concepts through their visual representation: hope and despair, growth and devastation, renewal and degeneration. He creates uncommon combinations, surprisingly mixing familiar symbols
with anonymous models, creating oxymoronic pictures of the beauty of destruction and the glamour of disaster. The photographs are often laden with symbols and metaphors from devout Christian iconography through the blunt pornography of overdoses and street gangs. LaChapelle takes the photographed image to the extreme of a blunt cliché, which almost collapses into a perfect grotesque due to the redundant color and exaggerated processing; surprisingly, beyond the excess, human gestures and unexpected vulnerability are revealed.

A New Exhibition at The Litvak Gallery - Glass Sculpture and Work on Paper. 9 Oct - 25 nOv 2010
The sculptress Ann Wolff is one of the important names in the European studio glass movement of the late seventies. At the end of the nineties, her work took off in a new direction, the results of which were exhibited to wide public acclaim in Europe, Japan and the USA. The dense sculptural and graphic oeuvre of the last eight years creates the need for a new book, one which offers an insight into the artistic way of thinking, into the creative process itself. This body of work which has been produced is both new and, in its way, innovative, alternately puts forward such themes as the individual figure in relation to the pair and group of figures, but also work with abstract-geometric shapes related to the human form and space. The artist delivers a virtuoso performance in playing with the very distinct, intrinsic conditions inherent in her chosen material “glass”: contoured and tactile
surfaces, reversals of inner and outer, construction of space with solids, but also interpenetration of layers and forms become meaningful: the sculpture possesses an intangible quality which – following a hidden trail – reveals inner landscapes. This exhibition will run along Vaclav Ciglers' Exhibition: Light and Space in the Garden of Reason (Runs Until 11 December 2010).

Yadid Rubin: Plowed ColorYadid Rubin's paintings offer a new syntax of landscape, which does not correspond with the concepts of subjectivity, intimacy and authenticity through which Israeli art has woven its identity. This is landscape delighting in the "decorative," the "synthetic" and the "beautiful"—terms that were unmentionable for many years in Israeli art's inner circle; these are landscape paintings in which the sense of place and its absence exist side by side, composing a new reality. The exhibition sets out Yadid Rubin's work since the late 1960s. Alongside chapters from his early work—conceptual works and units of paintings of kibbutz life, studio interior and landscape, the exhibition includes paintings from the late 1980s until today, as a crystallized unit: landscape scenes from his life, including field, house, tree, path, horizon line and sun in countless Please confirm! Time Fragments – Motke BlumThis award-winning, multi-disciplinary Romanian-born Israeli artist, a holocaust survivor who escaped forced labor in Romania, closes the circle of his past and emphasises the concept of renewal with his latest exhibition of works that have been created from the depth of his experiences and soul which have been “covered with a layer of dust for many years”. The color white is most prominent as the artist endeavours to purify his experiences as a human being in the 20th century using this cleansing color. Runs from April 27-May 21.8 King Saul Blvd., Tel Aviv. Tel: (03) 6961746 Sun-Thur 9pm- 5pm, Mon, Wed 6pm-8pm.

Good news for residents and visitors to the Herzliya sea shore: Orna & Ella, one of Tel Aviv’s highly praised restaurants, is branching out. The new location, just off the Herzliya Hasharon coast, is easily accessible and offers the famous Orna & Ella menu and the fair prices that continue to attract devoted Tel Avivians and tourists for almost 18 years: it includes the famous Sweet Potato fritters and a superb Gaspacho soup, the perfect summer-time opener for a delicious lunch or dinner.
The beautifully designed Herzliya restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the second floor balcony facing west has already become a magnet for couples and families enjoying the beautiful sunsets. The superb food, influenced by the Italian cuisine, includes delicious appetizers and main courses, and obviously the legendary Orna & Ella desserts. A rich wine menu is based on the best among Israeli reds and whites.

The Container - Art space, Bar & RestaurantOld Jaffa Port, Wearhouse #2The Container is an industrial warehouse space that has been converted into an art project space, bar and restaurant, located in the Old Port of Jaffa. The Container''s extensive art program features national and international artists that have been invited to make site specific works for the space. The Main Space gallery of The Container is an industrial warehouse space. Not a museum or a sterile gallery space, the art is in competition with its environment at The Container, it needs to find its own and excel within the dynamic platform. And no space is wasted at The Container. The restrooms have been utilized for a project space named Public Life. This is a space for younger artists, or those with a sense of humour and fun, who are interested in sharing their works in a mini project space at a time when our clients are alone. The most public, the most private. Old Jaffa Port, Wearhouse #2 Tel: 03-6836321
