Different pointers do different things
• arrow pointer for pointing and clicking
• hand for an automatic link to another document
Now you know how to use the mouse
let’s have a look at Windows
You have already seen some Windows features
• Menu bar
• Icons
• Drop-down menu
Now let’s look at some more Windows features
The desktop is the screen you see at first
Windows features
The desktop’s background is called wallpaper
It can be a photo, a pattern, a plain colour – anything
This one is a photo of a train station
Windows features
The programs you use are sometimes displayed as icons on the desktop
Windows features
If the program icons you want are not on the desktop,
click on Start then Programs
Windows features
No matter what the desktop wallpaper or the icons on it look like, when
you use any Windows program you will see lots of things that always look
the same
You will see similar screens on all Windows programs
Word (word processing)
Excel (spreadsheet)
Access (database)
Let’s look at some icons that are used in Windows
• Minimise - if you click on this icon
–it shrinks the page to an icon at the bottom of the screen
This is what a minimised program looks like
Want the program back?Just click on the minimised icon
more icons …• Maximise - if you click on this icon
–it enlarges the view so that it fills the entire screen
