Charles Evans, Gardena's 2l0-pound fullback and one of the t~ium··

v1rate honored last year as top players, was aocla~ed again for hisoutstanding efforts for coach stan SMith. Los Angeles City ChampionCarson High got into the three-player aot, when all-around star BobBartlett was singled out for top mention. And Reseda quarterback BillSusa, who accounted for 1,490 yards in total offense for coach Roy Jae,rounded out the three-pronged selection.

All three perfo~ers named for player of the year honors, alongwith members of the All-Los Angeles City Football Teams, will be honored at Helms Hall on Saturday morning, January 14 at 10:30 a.m., whenthe 30th annual football awards program will be held. Players, alongwith their ooaches and special invited guests from the world of football will be in attendance.

In being named for top-player honors, Reseda's Bill Susa helpedhis Regents to a perfect west-Valley League season and a game scoringaverage of 34 points. Bill passed for 1,068 yards (63 of 118) andrushed for an additional 422 yards (5.5 avg.) to give him his 1,490yards in total offense.

Charles Evans, bothered in late season by injuries, still managed to carry for 725 yards (9.8 avg.) and scored 13 touchdowns. Evanspassed for an additional 175 yards and two TOs. As in the case of Bobriartlett at Carson, Evans' was a tower of strength to coach stan smithon defense at linebacker.

Bob Bartlett carried for 634 yards on the season (5.8 avg.) andscored eight touohdowns. His great defensive play -- the Board couldjust as well have selected him at a backfield position as linebackerwhere he was picked -- was certainly a prime reason why the CarsonColts went all the way to the city title in 1966. Coach Gene Vollnogle's eleven wound up the season with a perfect 11-0 won-loss mark, defeating Jefferson (7-0), Reseda (28-20) and San Fernando (27-13) inthe playoff's.

As you might expect, champion Carson placed the most men on thefirst team as four title-winning Colts were selected. Ron Carver atend, Frank Gutierrez and Joe Dymerski in the interior line and BobBartlett at linebacker were the selectionse Finalist San Fernandolanded three berths as Jeff Miller (LB), Anthony Moore (back) andkicker Art Borquez who, according to Helms Board members, had the outstanding "toe" in the city this year.
