President’s Message Sue Hoecker
Vice President’s Message Mary Dawn Ditty
Local Talent I met Quilting Rico at the Air Force
Wives Craft Show in fall of 2016
where he had a booth to display his
quilts and his long arm work.
I was intrigued with his enthusiasm and his love of quilting. He
has agreed to be our speaker for our June guild meeting. His talk
will be titled “Many Firsts.” Come hear his fascinating quilting
story from a man who is truly enjoying all aspects of quilting!
YOU are needed to take two packs of tickets and buy/sell them
to help out sales. It would be such a boost to our revenue.
Retreat details are being announced…two openings left!
Outstanding job to Mary Kokoszka and her Committee. An
exciting time for us all to share free time sewing and fellowship
in a very relaxed setting.
Mark October 23 on your calendar for our annual Auction. You
will be hearing from our Committee regarding needs. Always a
fun night.
Christmas Dinner Committee has been meeting and planning
details for a great evening of fellowship for all of us. Stay tuned
for details.
Raffle Quilt 2018 is in the planning stage. Lucinda Mercier is
chairing this project. ML Kaczka has been a great help in
designing the lighthouse themed quilt on EQ7. Thank you for
your leadership.
Refreshments for our meetings has become increasingly
difficult to get volunteers to bring food and oversee set-
up/clean-up. The Board discussed this month and an option is to
eliminate refreshments except for major events. As an
alternative, water will be available. This will be discussed at our
June meeting and voted on by the membership present…majority
vote rules.
I look forward to seeing you all June 26th! Say hello to someone
you haven’t met before and let them know they are welcome.
Sue Hoecker
My Soul is Fed by Needle and Thread
Please join us every 4th Monday of the month at 6:30 pm.
First Baptist Church of Dover, located at 301 Walker Rd.
Our membership fee is $25.00 per year.
Our newsletter this month gets us back on schedule with
meeting updates and workshops! Bethanne Nemesh…WOW,
what an inspiration for all of us for May program. She certainly
lives a creative path with her artistic flair and history in each
of her quilts. She won in Lancaster show, too. Mary Dawn has a
great itinerary of speakers and workshops scheduled…please
refer to our website for details and sign-up at the meeting for
workshops. There is something to interest everyone!
Thank you Carrie Dobos for teaching "Star of Hope Quilt"
workshop; Cindy King, Barbara Sansone, ML Kaczka for the
“Intro to Electric Quilt 7 Workshop” and to Mary Kokoszka for
“Hand Applique Workshop”. It’s such a gift to have our own
members share their talents with all of us. Great attendance
and we all walked away with knowledge that we can do it, too.
You are an inspiration to us all!
No Skills Forum scheduled for June 26 meeting. If you have
a special interest to share with the members, please let me
know for next month.
Pre-meeting sale of books will be held at our June 26
meeting, led by Elaine Morris. Lots to choose from…priced to
sell! Next month a raffle on a designer handbag, donated by a
member.
Quilts of Valor night is scheduled for August meeting. If you
have participated by sewing for this project, you are eligible to
nominate a recipient. Please forward your suggestions to Peg
Gilson. QOV is a special project to HH…we need YOUR help to
sew blocks. Kits will be available at the meeting.
Raffle Quilt continues to travel to many venues. Barbara Austin
is doing an exceptional job promoting it. We need each member
to commit to spending time at a venue …it’s so much fun meeting
people and sharing the love of quilting.

Keep in mind Helping Hands' Annual Auction Monday October 23rd! Not too
soon to be saving gently used items or "why did I ever buy that" items.
Think theme baskets, or grouping of fat quarters. Get creative and let's see
some new and creative ideas. Doesn't necessarily have to be quilting
related...kitchen, bath, greeting card theme baskets.

Raffle Quilt 2018 Lucinda Mercier
A committee has been formed to start planning and
assembling our next raffle quilt. Mary Kokoszka, Sue
Hoecker, ML Kaczka, Mary Dawn Ditty, and Lucinda
Mercier have begun plans for a quilt with lighthouse
blocks. It is believed that the public in this area of DE will
relate to this design. ML is using EQ7 to design it and
Lucinda is going to lead the sewing.
We would love you to help by donating fabric pieces
and /or fat quarters in these colors:
PLEASE, BRING TO THE JUNE MEETING (OR JULY).
• Tans (both tone on tone, sand, seashells, etc.)
• Blue (water and sky colors)
• Rust and reds
• Greens (medium to light)
• Lavender/ purple (medium, to light)
• Gold
Some tone on tone or textured fabrics are needed.
Any questions: Please, call or email Lucinda
at 302-525-5614 or [email protected]
Block of the Month: Block 11 is due at the meeting! We encourage you to finish
this fun project so we can show our completed projects in
September when the designer, Sandi Blackwell, visits us. It
will be exciting to see how different they look due to our
varying placement and fabrics!
Workshop Fees: Fees for all-day workshops are $40 payable to the guild when
you sign up. Half day is $25. Member led workshops are $15 to
cover guild costs.
If you have any blocks (either 4-Patch or stripped) for QOV, please bring them to the June meeting. We are only 10 blocks short of completing our goal of 4 quilts to present at the August meeting.
June 2017 Helping Hands Newsletter 3
We seem to acquire more fabric just when we begin to wonder
what is next for us, and the work goes on and on. It's amazing
the variety of fabrics we receive for all ages, and it is all so
much fun to work on.
Kits for top making are available at the guild meeting, or
don't hesitate to contact me between meetings if the QFO
bug strikes you! Machine quilting and binding is an ongoing
project as well.
Thank you, Ladies. Ann Fischer, Coordinator, QFO

Quilting for Others will meet on Tuesday, July 11 at 6PM at
the Simpson Center on Main St. in Camden. Please remember to
park behind the Whatcoat Church off Center Street and come
into the building through the back. Just follow the crowd and
the well-lit sidewalk! We are on a patriotic wave, and we will
have a number of these and other quilts to be pinned that night.
The patriotic quilts will go to Vets through the Cooties of the
Camden VFW. Come join us and see what we are all about! Last
month we welcomed two new ladies, and we enjoyed getting to
know them and hearing their ideas.
To date this year we have given out 99 quilts, and there are
several more ready to be handed out. Please don't hesitate to
ask for a quilt for someone in need.
