ISE 2009: a fast-growing event for a fast-growing industry

More visitors than everISE 2008 broke all attendance records – for the fourth year in a row

More exhibitors than everISE attracts more manufacturers from an ever wider range of industries

More space than everISE 2009 will occupy more halls of the Amsterdam RAI than ever before

Since its launch in 2004, Integrated Systems Europe

has grown spectacularly to become the region’s un-

disputed No.1 show for professional AV and electronic

systems integration. From modest beginnings, the

event has come to define this fast-growing industry,

acting as a magnet for manufacturers, distributors,

integrators and facilities managers alike.

Why has our event grown so fast?

Europe’s market for AV and systems integration is

growing at a tremendous rate. From being a technolo-

gy that is ‘nice to have’, AV is now seen as a necessity

in many industries.

The convergence between AV and IT technologies

means that most audiovisual products can now reside

on a network, making them more likely to be specified

at the start of a construction project, and easier to

maintain once they are installed.

Meanwhile, technological advances have led to the de-

velopment of exciting new applications, such as digital

signage, collaborative conferencing, remotely mana-

ged security systems and whole-house automation.

And, with their ability to be controlled remotely

according to preset schedules, AV systems can help

end customers ‘go green’ by cutting down on emplo-

yee travel and reducing energy consumption in the

workplace.

From retail chains to financial institutions, from sports

arenas to residential developments, AV systems are

all around us – informing, entertaining, and adding

value for the customers who buy them.

How do we serve our market?

With its emphasis on solutions, Integrated Systems

Europe reflects this dynamic marketplace with an

array of leading-edge AV technologies that is second

to none in the region. Manufacturers of video projec-

tion and display equipment, control systems, audio

products and much more present attendees with an

unrivalled selection of new ideas.

But there is more to ISE than just a tradeshow. With

the backing of its two supporting trade associations,

InfoComm International and CEDIA, the event offers

a wide range of training opportunities which, like the

show itself, is growing in scope and popularity with

each passing year.

Above all, ISE has an unmatched reputation for brin-

ging businesses in this emerging market together.

Every year, hundreds of new industry partnerships are

forged within our halls and at the increasing number

of social events that sum up the positive energy of the

systems integration market.

ISE 2009: attracting the right people, from the right places, with the right spending powerISE has always been about bringing professionals

together. Our growth has come about not through

attracting legions of tyre-kickers who waste exhibi-

tors’ time, but by targeting the key companies in the

systems integration marketplace, and encouraging

them to bring more of their staff and their business

associates.

Where do our attendees come from?

Right from the beginning, ISE has been a highly

focused, European show. In 2008, 87% of our attende-

es came from Europe. By comparison with previous

years, the show saw significant growth in attendance

from the emerging markets of Southern and Eastern

Europe.

A clear focus on EuropeISE is precisely targeted at its local market

In what sectors do our attendees work?

ISE is unique in offering solutions relevant to the

fields of both commercial and residential systems

integration. The rapid growth of control and automa-

tion technology is leading to increasing convergence

between these two sectors, and only ISE puts them

together under one roof.

In 2008, over 40% of our attendees described their

business as a mix of commercial and residential

work. Exhibitors offering a wide range of products,

from flat-screen displays to distributed audio and

lighting control, benefit directly from this convergence.

Mixing business with pleasureISE draws a mix of integrators from the commercial and residential fields

How do our attendees earn their living?

Our core visitor base is AV and electronic systems

integrators, and the numbers of these that ISE attracts

is still rising. However, with each ISE, the percentage

of vertical-market attendees continues to rise – up to

50% in 2008.

This second category of attendees, which is essential

for the further growth of the AV industry, compri-

ses technology managers and buyers from a broad

range of disciplines. Their organisations include retail

chains, hotel companies, financial institutions, health-

care organisations, education authorities, architectu-

ral practices and interior design firms.

Reaching beyond the channelISE attracts a rising proportion of commercial end-user buyer

How much do our attendees spend?

ISE has always attracted the industry’s key decision-

makers, and 2008 was no different. Some 84% of our

attendees either have direct authorisation to spend,

or exert an influence over purchasing decisions by

making recommendations.

As the technologies become more sophisticated and

synergistic, the value of the typical project is also in-

creasing. Over 50% of ISE attendees spend more than

0.5 million euro each year on AV and systems inte-

gration technologies, with the top 38% spending over

1 million euro.

Facts and figures tell only a part of the story. No other tradeshow in our industry has the positive energy of ISE. But don‘t just take our word for it...

“This was our first year at ISE and we are very pleased. Our decision to attend was based on the huge year-on-year growth in attendance figures. In fact, we felt we couldn’t afford not to be here as this show is now attracting global awareness. We are delighted with the volume of visitors to our booth and the real interest shown in our products. We have already booked for 2009.” Nick Cottis, Digital Projection

“We achieved what we came to achieve. The key benefit of ISE is that you get to meet new prospects outside of the usual ‘inner circle’ of known contacts. ISE is great value for money” Mick Brophy, Vieta Pro

“Since the 2006 event we have seen the market experience huge growth, so it is very important that we are here. Our visitors are professionals who know what they want to discuss.” Michael Bredow, Leurocom

“Fabulous! This was our first time at ISE and we are returning in 2009 with a booth twice the size. Our only disappointment is that we had not attended before! What makes ISE different from the rest is that we get to meet dealers and integrators.” Stuart Craig, Australian Monitor

“A very good show indeed. Not only did we have a great number of customers attend, but they also brought their end users with them! And what I was particularly pleased about was that 95% of customers who said they would attend actually turned up. That shows commitment.” Geert Ramaekers, Revox

“The place to be! ISE has really matured. We always believed in ISE and now we see our investment has really paid off. ISE is not only just a tradeshow now – education is also very important and this year all our training sessions were full to capacity.” Rainer Stiehl, Extron

ISE 2009: ensuring continued growth through media publicity

As ISE continues to grow, so the PR coverage it

generates for exhibitors also broadens in scope and

audience reach. In 2008, more magazines than ever

before, in more territories than ever, devoted substan-

tial space to their pre-show and post-show coverage.

Year after year, ISE invests further in developing its PR

and marketing activities, extending the industry’s ex-

posure beyond the core AV press to include end-user

magazines in a wide range of sectors, from architec-

ture and design to auditoria, hotels, local government

and live events.

Where do we promote ISE?

As well as enhanced PR activity, ISE continues to

market the show to an ever broader audience, expan-

ding the reach of its campaign while remaining clearly

focused on professional buyers and influencers.

For the 2008 show, we advertised ISE in over 100

magazines across Europe. Rather than trying to attract

the attention of a huge range of would-be visitors with

a single message, we created a selection of different

calls to action, each tailored to a particular audience,

while retaining a common theme and corporate

identity. For 2009, we are committed to expanding this cam-

paign still further, and will also enhance our activity

with online media through partnerships with industry

websites, as well as with larger-scale use of electro-

nic mailshots and newsletters.
