College Scholarship Information Parents, please remind your Seniors to give Mrs. Walls, College and Career Advisor, copies of college acceptance letters

as well as awards, grants, and scholarship letters. This information is used for the graduation program and the state

report.

Senior Awards Night Senior Awards Night is June 1st at 6:00 p.m. in the gymnasium. Students will receive personal invitations if they are expected to attend this event. Only students that are invited can attend with their parents/guardians.

Charging Forward GREAT Family Fun Night! On Wednesday, May 10th at 6:00 p.m. please join us for a family night of learning, engaging, and fun activities to promote Life-Long Learning, Honor & Respect, and Success! Sessions will include lessons from Math, Reading, Writing to Learn, STEM, PARCC, games, door prizes, scholarship information, college & career ready prep, and more!

Talent Show The 5th Annual Talent Show held by the SGA will be on Friday, May 12th, 2017 at 6 pm. The tickets will be $5 per person.

We will be making a donation to Hannah's Socks. If you bring a pair of new socks to donate, you get $1 off your admission

price. You can bring 5 new pairs of socks and get in for free! Come support the amazing talent at Lackey High School!

2017 Yearbook Underclassmen, the 2017 yearbook is now available for purchase. Please go to Jostens.com to purchase your yearbook.

Testing Schedule HSA testing will be conducted during the month of May. Parents, please encourage your student to get plenty of rest, eat a good breakfast, and come to school on time and prepared for their scheduled test. Thank you. College Signing Day On Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 8:20 a.m. Lackey will host its College Signing Day to celebrate students for making a

Eligibility Standards for Athletics, Clubs and Activities Students attending Charles County Public Schools must meet eligibility requirements in order to participate in

interscholastic athletics, or take part in a club/organization that performs or competes. The eligibility requirements are as

follows:

Must have earned a 2.25 GPA from the previous quarter

No failing “F” grades from the previous quarter

Must not have more than 4.5 days absent from the previous quarter

Summer Youth Camp The Lackey Summer Youth Camp is an activities camp for students entering the 2nd grade this fall through age 13 years

old as of June 19, 2017. Campers engage in a variety of activities including swimming, kickball, floor hockey, whiffle ball,

basketball, capture the flag, and art classes. The camp is run by three certified teachers, and college and high school

Relay for Life Walk Join Lackey for the Relay for Life walk at 6pm on Friday, June 9th at the Charles County Fairgrounds in La Plata. If you

Dress Code Policy Members of the Charles County Association of Student Councils (CCASC), at the request of school system administrators, developed recommendations for a systemwide dress code. Student members of the CCASC worked with the middle and high schools, as well as staff, teachers, parents and administrators to develop the recommendations.

The following is the dress code approved by the Board of Education: 1. Shorts are permitted as long as the shorts reach the middle of the thigh, defined as shoulders relaxed and arms

straight down alongside the body where fingertips touch the thigh. 2. Skirts are permitted as long as the skirt reaches the middle of the thigh, defined as shoulders relaxed and arms straight

down alongside the body where fingertips touch the thigh. Slits in the skirt may not rise more than two inches above fingertips.

3. Sleeveless shirts are permitted as long as at least two-fingers’ width of fabric covers both shoulders and the chest area and undergarments are not exposed.

4. Spaghetti straps are not permitted with the exception of formal wear. 5. Midriff area (front and back) must not be visible at any time, even while seated. 6. Undergarments must not be visible at any time. 7. Cleavage must not be visible at any time. 8. Pants must be secured no lower than mid hip and must not cover the front of the shoes while walking. 9. Backless and open-toed shoes with a hard sole are permitted as long as the shoes do not pose a safety hazard. Foam

and similar soft-soled shoes, such as flip-flops or beach footwear, are prohibited. 10. Headwear is not permitted. This includes but is not limited to hats, visors, bandannas and hoods. (Exceptions may be

granted for religious and medical reasons with proper verification.) 11. Sunglasses are not permitted except during outdoor activities. 12. Sleepwear and sleepwear-type clothing are not permitted. (Exceptions are granted for certain activities, such as

overnight field trips.) 13. Jewelry that poses a safety hazard to the student or other students is not permitted. 14. Sports uniforms that are worn during the school day must conform to the dress code. 15. Clothing that displays or symbolizes any language or material that is inappropriate for school or offensive to any group

is not permitted. This includes, but is not limited to material relating to drugs, alcohol, profanity, obscenity, racism, gang activity and violence.

16. Recreational and noninstructional swimsuit attire must not be disruptive or distracting. Female swimsuits must be one piece and fully cover the chest and buttocks. Male swimsuits must be mid thigh. All swimsuits must remain nontransparent when wet. Swimsuits may not be worn uncovered outside of the pool area.

17. Formal attire must not be disruptive or distracting. Spaghetti straps and sleeveless or strapless formal dresses are acceptable as long as adequate coverage is maintained during activity. Slits in skirts or dresses may not rise more than a hand’s width above the knee. Transparent attire is prohibited. Necklines may not fall below mid-sternum. Backless gowns may be permitted at the end-of-year prom, but are inappropriate for all other events including school dances, choral performances and in situations where a student or group of students officially represent the school system.

18. The dress code is in effect at all school-sponsored events on and off campus. Note: Administrators have the flexibility to exercise their judgment, with the authority of the executive director of school administration, to determine if a student’s attire is considered disruptive or distracting.

Absentee Notes All absentee notes for students must have a parent's signature. We no longer accept emails. Also, please remember to send a note within 3 days of your student's absence. Requests for administrative approval of absences must be sent to the respective grade level administrator at least 2 weeks in advance.

Early Dismissal Policy Per Charles County Board of Education: Only a parent or legal guardian (living at the address where the student is registered) may sign a student out of school unless there is a SCHOOL EMERGENCY and the SCHOOL is unable to reach the parent or legal guardian. This information is clearly printed on the Emergency Information Card. If a parent or legal guardian is sending someone to

pick up a student from school FOR ANY REASON, he/she MUST send a written note in advance indicating who will be picking up the student and giving consent which requires a legal signature. This rule applies whether or not the person who is picking up the student appears on the Emergency Information Card. Upon receiving a note from a parent/guardian the school will verify its authenticity with verbal confirmation with the parent/guardian and verifying the ID of the adult who signs the student out of the building. The parent or legal guardian must provide written documentation explaining the reason for the early dismissal. The school will then code the early dismissal as lawful or unlawful according to the Code of Maryland Regulations 13a.08.01.03.

Food Drop Off Policy As per the 2016 – 17 Parent Handbook/Calendar Student Services -- Page 24 Due to allergies, students and their parents/guardians are not allowed to bring to school and distribute any outside food products unless the products are commercially manufactured, individually wrapped in single serving sizes, and marked with the ingredients and the nutritional facts label. Outside food cannot be delivered to school.
