The years turn so quickly, we wonder at the passage of time. But it is the

events that mark each year that brings us joy. Like any family, it is the

celebration of “the big one” that galvanises everyone. We feel the special

significance of this 60th year of The Henry Lawson Festival of Arts and

also the 150th anniversary of Henry Lawson’s birth. Our theme of “Happy

Birthday” makes us want to embrace the joys of life and creativity.

The committee want to wish a very Happy Birthday to any residents who,

like our Festival, are celebrating 60 years of joys and special events. I am

only one year younger than the Festival. Like many of you, I haven’t missed

too many Festival weekends. We have much to celebrate and be proud.

“That came to my head to comfort me, and I pass it along to you;

And here is a hand to the good old friends who turn up good as new.

And this is a song for the camp-fire out west where the stars shine bright-

Oh, this is a song for the camp-fire where the old mates yarn to-night.”

- “As Good As New”, Henry Lawson.

We welcome all to the celebration of this 60th year of The Henry Lawson

Festival of Arts.

Happy birthday, Henry!

Congratulations, Grenfell!
