Report of Our President…

Wow this year is going fast and summer is right around the corner. As we get ready for vacations and summer break let's remember to keep God on our hearts and keep all loved ones safe and happy. We are still working with the Boys and Girls Club and as of right now there is nothing new to report, but I will keep everyone informed as we hear more from them. Just a reminder that Ministry night is the Tuesday before council each month, and if you would like to join a team or just come to give your ideas you are more than welcome. This month's Ministry night will be on June 6th.

Have a Great start to your summer and God Bless,

Craig Ruegg

Council Highlights May 11, 2017

In attendance: Craig, Gabi, Sheila, Don, John, Rick, Pastor Marcia, Bruce, and Jenny

Service We will be making a sign to put in the Wellness Gardens with leftover supplies from a Thrivent Grant (no additional cost to Redeemer).

We will donate a garden plot to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The Giving Tree is in progress.

Sunday, September 10, 2017 is “God’s Work, Our Hands” Day. Please give ideas to the Service Team for service projects that could be done.

Love The Beer Club is putting together a proposal/plan to bring back Oktoberfest this fall. Please see Christian Sturgeon or Craig Ruegg if you would like to help with the planning.

Spirituality Pastor Marcia reviewed why we remove all things from the table when we start with our opening prayer at each council meeting. The purpose of this is to allow everyone to more easily focus on Jesus (not business) during the prayer/devotion.

Operations The Kemmel Bequest was originally designated to be given to a member attending seminary. Since there are no members attending seminary, council is giving this to the ELCA seminary fund. This will allow it to be used for its designated purpose.

Gabi is cleaning up some of the language/reporting of advanced giving and asset accounts so it is more clear and easier to understand.

Respectfully Submitted by Jenny Nettesheim

Seeds of Ministry Nuggets

JUNE 4th

John writes of the Festival of Tabernacles and Luke writes of Pentecost. In both the “Paraclete” or “Spirit of truth” comes to teach them, remind them of all that Jesus has said to them, and guide them into all truth. The Spirit will be the abiding presence of Jesus with his disciples, continuing his work in and through them and now through us.. This promise is fulfilled on the evening of Easter Sunday, when the risen Jesus comes to his disciples, breathes into them the Holy Spirit, and sends them out in mission The Festival of Tabernacles celebrated God’s presence and provision for Israel in the wilderness. Not only did God provide manna from heaven and water from a rock, God’s very presence dwelt with the people in the “tabernacle of the covenant.” Now in Jesus, the Word made flesh, God has come to “tabernacle” among us once again ("to dwell in a tent”). Since Jesus could not remain in the flesh, he promised to send his Spirit to dwell with his disciples and us forever.

JUNE 11th

In 2 Corinthians 13 Paul writes, “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” At the time of this writing the doctrine of the trinity had not yet been fully developed or taught yet here we find a reference to all three persons. The mention of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit in one breath, however, should not be surprising to any reader of Paul’s letters. Paul has already claimed that the Corinthians have but “one Lord and one God”. and furthermore, it is the Spirit who has come from God who enables the church to have the “mind of Christ” and of course, it is only through the grace of Christ that the church enjoys fellowship with the Spirit.

JUNE 18th

Jeremiah laments his circumstances as we often do. Laments are a God-given way for us to make a situation more open for God, to give God more room to work in our lives. We can be confident that God always has our best interests at heart and will work with our prayers and other factors to create the best possible future.

JUNE 25th

Matthew, more than any other Gospel, underlines the ways in which Jesus not only represents divine power and presence, but democratizes this power -- and the responsibilities that come with it -- in ministry with his disciples. It is made clear in Matthew that God’s power is now at work not only in Jesus, but also in through his disciples and, today, us. The interwoven relationships between the disciples, Jesus, and today us, and God replace the broken relationships that exist with family and society. God is there with us always.

Operations/Finance Meeting Notes May 11, 2017

We met for Ministry Team night with other Ministry Teams. Tonight Operations Team attendees were Bruce Horst, Gabi Priesgen, Scott Lopas and Don Horen.

Topics discussed were: Our Treasurer’s books are carrying a lot of miscellaneous

asset accounts that that zero activity within them. It was suggested that the Treasurer, with Council approval, “zeroing out” these accounts to deduct the monthly deficits from.

The “Kemmel Bequest” is carrying a large balance that should be donated to a ELCA seminary student per the bequest document.

We looked over the financial reports and will request approval of council.

The plumbing problem in the lower level men’s room was found and thanks to the Roto Rooter Man is was cleared up. It seems the there is a cast iron connection that has some corrosion where paper debris can accumulate and plug up the line. The cost was around $650.

5 Redeemer Lutheran Church

When I read this scripture I think of a young man I know. He does not attend church every week, but does on important days to his family. When I asked him what being a Lutheran means to him this is what he said, “I may not go to church but I believe in God, and I try to follow Jesus’ teachings in my life every day”. I asked him to give me an example of how he does this. He tells me how his employer has an abundance of scrap wood. They let the employees take it for free if they want it, or they have to pay to have it disposed of. So at the end of every week if no one else takes it he loads it up and takes it out to a family he knows that uses wood to heat there house. This family has a lot of children and appreciates it very much. He never asks for anything in return and does this every week rain, snow or shine. He then tells me it’s no big deal it is the right thing to do.

The Service Team is busy with a variety of projects, as I think of what the young man above said and his actions. Let us open our hearts and minds to think of ways we can be “stewards of God’s Grace”. If you want to do some service either big or small, with a group or on your own. We want to hear about it. Drop us a note, send me a text, text me a picture. (Sheila 262-224-9706) From our youngest to our oldest member’s, I know you are out there doing good things. I would like to hear about them and let the congregation know. Every little thing we do builds up to a mountain of great things!

Please be aware that changes have been made to Special Giving for the next few weeks. In response to the Chetek tornado last week, we are taking Special Giving for two weeks to help those affected by the tornado. The money will be sent to Chetek Lutheran Church. They will combine it with their Special Giving and distribute it to those in urgent need. This is a great partnership opportunity. Sheila has been in contact with the Chetek church. She has had our members ask if they need clothes, etc. We will know more in the weeks to come. More information will come as the Chetek church meets with Emergency Response Teams.

Warrior House Special Giving will continue through the month of June. We will be purchasing Piggly Wiggly Gift cards. When I contacted them they said they are in need of donations for perishable food. Please give to these Heroes who are in need of our support as they return to civilian life, and are recovering from injuries.

We received a Thrivent Grant to install a permanent Giving Tree in the Coffee Area. Please be patient as you see some upcoming transformations in the Coffee Area and Narthex. This will be a great way to give to

organizations in our church, community and the world. It will not replace Special Giving but give us all opportunities to give items that are needed. Things that we may have at home that may need a new home! Please see Jenny Nettesheim or Sheila Bauer with any questions. SAVE THE DATE : God’s Work, Our Hands Sept. 10 2017. ELCA Statement:

Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life

in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life – flows freely from a living,

daring confidence in God’s grace.

We are looking for ideas on how we can give back to those who serve us every day, keeping us safe, helping when we are in need. Like the Police Officer who sat in our parking lot Easter Sunday, when threats were being made across our country. Please contact Sheila, John or Rick with any thoughts you might have.

Thanks to all of you who helped clean up around the church building on Clean –Up Sat. The church grounds look very nice. We have some ongoing items to be finished up.

Community Garden is off to a great start this year. There are still some plots available. Thanks to Christian for all his hard work on keeping this project going.

Please let me know if I have missed anything!

Yours in Service, Sheila , Rick & John

forms.” 1 Peter 4:10
