your calorie tracking for this food could be off by up to 75% - a big difference!

She adds, “Similarly, most of us dish up at least three times more pasta than the recommended 'serving', as this would be so small that we’d likely think it was a side dish!”

To correct this, Bowerman cautions, “When looking at a packet that defines a serving size, you need to know exactly what you’re eating. Consuming four or five servings in one portion will make a big difference to your calorie intake”, and may also impact your goals.

Keeping track of your daily intake of calories and the micro and macronutrients all comes down to knowing exactly what you’re eating everyday. However, what many people don’t realise is that there is a difference between a ‘serving’ and a ‘portion’. They could be consuming far more than they think, without even knowing it.

According to Registered Dietitian Susan Bowerman, "A ‘portion’ is the amount of food you serve yourself, although in most cases this is much larger than the 'serving' size listed on packets of foods or in government recommendations.”

"For example, if you look at the official serving of a muffin, the majority refer to a 30g muffin, which is just a couple of bites,” explains Bowerman. “However, if you buy a takeaway muffin or bake one yourself, it’s likely to be around four times bigger than this recommended serving.” This means that

Healthy long-lasting nutrition is all about striking the perfect balance. HEAD TO THE BARRE

This style of training is made up of traditional

moves modified to suit all levels. A ballet barre is used to help you balance

while doing isometric strength exercises (holding your body

still while you contract a specific set of

muscles), combined with high reps of

movements with a small range of motion.

Barre classes combine gentle

strength exercises (using body-weight) with flexibility and coordination. The

slow and purposeful movements help with muscular control and

You can have talent and the potential to be a great player, but you have to work at it. I’m focused on my training and on my game, and I dedicate myself because I think it’s very important for my career. It’s how I keep seeing results and how I get better at my game.”

Around the world, millions of fans catch a glimpse of this passion when they turn up or tune in to watch Ronaldo play.

“It has given me motivation to work more and be better for both the present and future,” Ronaldo says of his social media following. “I know that wherever I am in the world, I have a lot of fans. This is why I always try to play well.”

Even when attacked by critics, Ronaldo doesn’t let it get the best of him. In fact, it just fuels him to do better. “It gives me extra power,” he admits. “Especially when I play away games and the crowds boo me. This has given me extra motivation because I want to show them that they are wrong and that this is what I’m born to do.”

FOCUSED ON FITNESSWhile Ronaldo partly credits his genetics for his success, he’s also quick to stress the importance of training and exercise. “Genetics are very important,” he says, “but if you work on your genetics you will become better. Being in good shape is so important. It’s a weapon for me, because I think it’s something that gives me an advantage over other players.”

Looking ahead, Ronaldo is committed to maintaining and even building his strong, muscular physique. “It’s going to take dedication and hard work but, for the future, I will try to maintain the same level of fitness. However, as strict as he is about his diet, Ronaldo isn’t afraid to ‘cheat’ every once in a while. “I try to eat well, have good supplementation and to drink well. But if there’s a day or two where I go out and treat myself to something like cake, I don’t have a problem with this,” he says.

THE SCIENCE:Sweating is your body’s way of regulating temperature. During physical exercise you sweat between 0.5 to 2 litres of fluid per hour, although the amount will depend on exercise intensity, environmental circumstances (such as hot weather) and your individual propensity. However, to gain the beneficial effects, a substantial amount must be consumed in the 4-6 hours following strenuous exercise. To put this into context, a person weighing 70kg would need to consume 280g carbohydrates within 4-6 hours post-workout: a fairly difficult feat for most people! Oily skin is usually characterised by excess oil build-up (sebum) in the T-zone area of the forehead, nose, chin and cheeks. Look for a cleanser and toner to help remove and control excess oil.
