Climbing into bed at night and settling into a deep, restful slumber should be one of the easiest and most natural things to do. But our busy lives often take a toll on our ability to unwind.

We work too much and rest too little, and many of us don’t take time to eat as well as we should. And, these bad food habits can affect the quality of our sleep.

Often busy people don’t eat enough during the day, then have a large, protein-heavy meal at night – which is really the opposite of what they should be doing.

Eat Right, Sleep Tight Susan Bowerman, Consultant to Herbalife

Protein foods stimulate the production of chemicals in your brain that help keep you alert – which is great when you’ve got a busy morning ahead, but probably not what you want when you’re trying to shut down for the day. Large meals eaten just before bed can lead to indigestion and heartburn – a perfect recipe for an uncomfortable night’s sleep.

On the other hand, low fat, high carbohydrate meals are digested more quickly, and stimulate the production of different brain chemicals – ones that help you relax and ease you into sleep.

So it’s best to choose protein at breakfast and lunch to keep you alert and clear-headed all day, and save the starchier carbs for dinner.

Caffeine and alcohol can also be sleep-busters. For most people, caffeine is a stimulant, so a cup of coffee before you hit the sack is probably unwise. Both caffeine and alcohol can disrupt normal sleep patterns, too. You might be able to fall asleep, but not for long, which makes it hard to reach the deepest – and most restful – stage of sleep. If that weren’t enough, chances are you’ll also be awakened by a full bladder, since both caffeine and alcohol act as diuretics.

If your evening meal is small and light (and early), then a light snack is fine if you feel it helps you sleep and you can afford the calories.

Try these tips for a better night’s sleep:

• Keep dinner on the light side, with a focus on foods like salad, veggies, fruits, whole grains and beans.

• If you know that caffeine keeps you awake, avoid caffeine-containing beverages for 6-8 hours before going to bed.

• Keep your alcohol intake moderate to avoid having your sleep disrupted.

• Drink most of your fluids during the day, and cut back after dinner. If you need to take medications at bedtime, then use as little liquid as you can.

• Finally, if you like to have a bedtime snack, include foods that are high in calcium, which helps muscles to relax. A cup of warm milk is an age-old remedy for sleeplessness, and for good reason.

Tang Kuei PlusTang Kuei is a traditional herb that assists in the relief of pre-menstrual symptoms, muscular aches and pains, nervous tension and mild anxiety.

Key Benefits:• Supports muscle relaxation and promotes

restful sleep• Helps relieve nervous tension, stress and

mild anxiety• Can be used by both men and women• Aids in the relief of pre-menstrual symptoms• Vegetarian-friendly

Why You Need It:Women undergo monthly hormonal changes that may cause a range of minor discomforts. Symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) include, but are not limited to, menstrual cramping, anxiety, restlessness and insomnia.

The root of the Tang Kuei plant is a rich source of Calcium, B vitamins, Iron, Magnesium and essential oils. These volatile oils have antispasmodic properties that have been shown to alleviate muscle cramps, one of the symptoms of PMS.

Key Ingredients:Tang Kuei - The gentle herbal properties of Angelica polymorpha (more commonly known as Dong Quai or Tang Kuei) encourage the body to restore its natural balance.

Chamomile - The flower heads of Matricaria recutita have been used for medicinal purposes since ancient times due to its reputed anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties. Known for its ability to soothe smooth muscle tissue, chamomile is perfect for relaxing muscles and easing tension, making it ideal for promoting a restful night’s sleep.

Corporate

The Path to Global SuccessAmertat Cohn and Julia Kadir Cohn, Chairman’s Club Members

Amertat’s Tips for Success1. Take charge! Become the leader of your destiny and don’t wait for

someone else to do it for you.2. The person next to you, wherever you are, may be your next

President’s Team Member. Take every opportunity to speak about the products and the business.

3. Success is a simple formula of having the right attitude, multiplied by the number of people you contact every day.

As a documentary film maker, Amertat Cohn has visited many countries, met many interesting people and won awards, but his work was neither stable nor financially rewarding enough for a father with four children. Amertat met Ben Cole when in LA looking for work in feature films. “We had a one-to-one meeting in his Herbalife office. I was impressed and bought the IBP immediately and also got some products to lose weight.” After three weeks he had lost 3 inches off his waistline. “It took me a year before I began to understand this business and started receiving royalty checks, but then things accelerated rapidly.”

He became a Millionaire Team member in March 1990, and moved to France later that year. Knowing no one in France, he talked to everyone he met including his banker and the man that rented him a car. One year later he became a President’s Team Member. In 1993, the banker and garage owner both became President’s Team members too. Amertat was recognised at the Extravaganza in 1993 as the No.8 distributor in the world.

From France and the USA his Herbalife business spread into Italy, Greece, India, and all over the world. Amertat entered the Chairman’s Club in 2004.

“Being a Chairman’s Club member brings me a lot of joy and a deep sense of satisfaction,” Amertat explains, “I have many opportunities to work with the company in making decisions that are important to me and to all of us.” The material rewards are significant too, We are treated so well, like a VIP during meetings and while traveling to events, with the best flights, hotels, and services. The special thing about Herbalife is that success does not tie you down as it does elsewhere – instead it sets you free’’. Amertat went to Malaysia in 2006 when the country first opened, and met Julia, now his wife. Where they have now settled, thanks to Herbalife. “We have the freedom to establish a new life in a new place, to live anywhere and travel anywhere, any time,” he explained.

Now 68, Amertat has no plans to retire. “I hope to achieve 3 more Diamonds in the next three years and proceed to the Founder’s Circle. Hopefully, two of my diamonds will be from my daughters who started their Herbalife business last year.” He also hopes to return to photography and film making.

“I also want to spend more time working out, to continue my sports well into my 80s, and to keep a healthy body, mind and spirit. If we don’t have good health, and clarity within, the rest is meaningless”
