Post Summary: Fellows posted at the Inle Heritage House Vocational Training Center work as an English language teacher at the vocational school as well as work with the founder of IHHVTC on various cultural sustainability projects. The fellow may also help to coordinate the internship program and has some flexibility to explore additional projects that vary by the fellow’s interests or skills.
Partner: IHHVTC was founded by Yin Myo Su and is an NGO that looks after the cultural and natural heritage of the Inle Region, through hospitality education and water resource management. It also serves as a one of a kind sustainable business model by being entirely supported through it's hotel and restaurant ventures.
Location and Logistics: Inle Lake is one of Myanmar’s top tourist attractions and one of the most beautiful and biologically diverse lakes. Visitors travel here to see the lake’s natural beauty, trek, and learn about the many ethnic minority groups that live around the lake. The Inthar people are one of these minority groups and they both live and support themselves on the lake by growing floating crops and living in stilted houses on the lake.
Housing: Fellows spend their time primarily at the school where housing is provided and on the weekends may have accommodations provided for them on the mainland at founder Yin Myo Su's other hotel.
Desired Qualifications: Teaching experience, experience in the ecotourism industry.
