A CHAPTER OF THE FAMILY MOTOR COACH ASSOCIATION CHARTERED 1977 Interactive web edition @ NewYorkCentrals.com October 2015 www.NewYorkCentrals.com Vol 14 Issue 6 HERKIMER RALLY First and foremost, thank you to our co-hosts, Phil and Pat Dana. All of your help was deeply appreciated. We would also like to thank everyone that attended and made this a great rally. In all, we had 19 Coaches and 36 people in attendance. At Fridays social hour, we did have a speaker from SkyMed, Larry Roberts, who explained what SkyMed is all about. Hopefully everyone had all of their questions answered. We would like to thank everyone who attended this presentation, as well as our guest speaker. Our Friday camp fire also saw everyone coming and having a good time. Saturdays activities were great with several of us "prospecting" for diamonds and finding some very nice Herkimer diamonds. There was also the Canal Cruise in the afternoon with several enjoying the sights of the old canal villages. We had our social hour as usual and it was also a great turnout by everyone. Our usual pot luck dinner was great with a large selection of foods to enjoy, which was followed by our annual meeting and election of Officers. Congratulations to our newly elected officers, may your year be a great one. We ended the weekend with our continental breakfast on Sunday morning with every saying our good-byes until our next get together. We did show a rally profit in the amount of $116.72, which made our treasurer very pleased. To the entire group that was there, again, thank you for all of your support and help in making this an enjoyable rally. In all, this took a lot to arrange, but was also very enjoyable to see that it was worth the work it took to do this rally. The bottom line is that we get together to have a good time and we hope that is what we did at this Rally. President’s Report Dan McCoy

315-689-9397 [email protected]

The passing of the torch has been made from the Burrell’s who have served so many years as president(s) and Secretary to the new kid on the block. I want to thank everyone who had enough confidence in me to make me your new president. I can’t promise a new RV in every garage, but I do promise that I will work hard and do my best to make the New York Centrals the very best chapter in the Northeast area. I cannot do it alone and it will only happen if everyone helps and more families step up and help. We have a very well respected chapter and just need to keep growing in size and more involvement in monthly rallies. We can’t expect the same few members to continually host rallies. I should also congratulate and thank the other executive board members. Jim Wilson our new 1

st VP, Hal Soutar

our new 2nd VP, Dolores Wilson the new secretary, Sue McCoy treasurer, Bart Barton National Director and Steven Essler Alt National Director. We all need to thank Rich and Charlotte Burrell for the many years they have served as board members. I look forward to their continued membership and guidance to this new executive board. This month’s rally consisted of great food, campfires, breaking rocks in search for Herkimer Diamonds and a boat ride on the Erie Canal. Cheryl and Harry Zakorchevnoy and Pat and Phil Dana had a well-planned rally and the Herkimer KOA was a very nice location. The end of the year dinner is October 25, 2015 at the Spaghetti Warehouse in Syracuse so be sure to call Jim Wilson with your RSVP by the 19

th. We will recap this year’s rallies and accomplishments and failures of some

members, you won’t want to miss this. Those of you who are going to Florida this winter, keep your eye on your e-mail, we want to have a winter happy hour sometime in February. Everyone traveling this winter stay safe. Those staying up north stay warm; we will all see you in May at our 1

st

rally at the Cortland Country Music Park.

1st Vice President’s Report Jim Wilson 315-406-2188 [email protected]

Great Rally at the Herkimer KOA. Thanks to our hosts, Cheryl and Harry, and co-hosts, Pat and Phil. Some of us went to the "diamond" mine and tried our luck at mining. Proved to be a lot of fun! Where did the summer go? It was a great camping season. Be sure and come to the end of season dinner. It will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Spaghetti Warehouse, 689 N. Clinton St., Syracuse, New York. We will meet at 2:00 PM for cocktails/cash bar, and 3:00 PM for dinner. You can order off the regular menu, each couple/individual will be responsible for their own bill and appropriate gratuity. Please RSVP to Jim Wilson at 315-834-3004 (home) or 315-406-2188 (cell) no later than October 19, 2015, or via email at [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you there! And, last but not least, I'd like to thank Richard Burrell for his past service as President, and Charlotte Burrell, for her past service as Secretary. Jim Wilson 1st Vice President

Secretary’s Report Dolores Wilson 607315-406-2188 [email protected]

Many of our members traveled to the Herkimer Diamond Mine KOA in Herkimer, New York for a weekend of fun, good food, and friendship. While there, some of us enjoyed the experience of mining in hopes of finding some Herkimer "diamonds". Jim and I had a little luck and lots of fun! We both decided that we just might have to go back and try again sometime in the future. We, along with some other New York Centrals, also enjoyed a leisurely cruise on the Erie Canal. The weather was beautiful, and the cruise was educational. As always, the pot luck dinner was very good and plentiful! The Herkimer Diamond Mine KOA proved to be a great choice of campground for our rally and a big thank you goes out to our rally hosts, Cheryl and Harry, and co-hosts, Pat and Phil! I'd like to take a moment to thank Richard Burrell and Charlotte Burrell for their past service as President and Secretary, respectively. And, I'd like to offer Congratulations to all the newly elected Officers! May everyone have a healthy and happy winter, and I'll look forward to seeing everyone when the 2016 RV'ing season commences! 2nd Vice President Report

Hal Soutar 518-810-2118 [email protected]

It’s hard to believe that we just had our last rally for 2015! Where did the summer go? The September rally at the Herkimer Diamond Mines was great. Nice weather, nice facilities, good food, and most of all good friends. Many thanks go out to Cheryl, Pat, Harry and Phil for a great job. Now Judi and I are looking forward to a nice winter in Florida with no snow as many of our members are also. We also look forward to catching up with the “Mayor of Turkey Lake “ for another happy hour in his neck of the woods. Please keep in mind the rally schedule for 2016 and give some thought to the September event, which we will be hosting with the Esslers in the wine country. We look forward to seeing everyone in Syracuse on the 25

th of October at the Spaghetti Warehouse. Until then,

safe travels. Hal Soutar 2

nd Vice President

From the National Director Bart Barton 585-289-4792 [email protected]

What a great rally at Herkimer. Great weather, great food and most of all great times with great friends. Thanks to Cheryl and Harry and Pat and Phil. Next stop Spaghetti Warehouse in October. Hope to see y’all there.

Bart PAST PRESIDENT REPORT

I want to summarize a couple of issues which came up during the chapter meeting in September. First, the chapter has offered our services to the Northeast area as volunteers for the 2016 FMCA International rally in Springfield, Massachusetts. I contacted Bob Mills on behalf of the chapter and offered our services as hosts for coffee and donuts during the rally. More information will be coming later. Next a motion was passed that we will offer lifetime memberships to the New York Centrals to those who founded this chapter. I have sent notification to Andy & Ginny Mancini, Pat Snyder and Nancy Rifken informing them of this decision and asked their assistance in locating any other surviving members of this initial membership list. Finally, a motion was passed that will require any person, member or non-member, to get prior approval of the executive committee to sell any items at chapter gathering. It was an honor to serve as your president for the past two years and I am looking forward to continue to work with the officers and members to assure the New York Centrals continue to grow and thrive.
