Hermeskeil Comprehensive School

The comprehensive school was founded in summer 2010. “Erich Kästner Realschule” and “Rector Bach Hauptschule” were combined. Since then our school is a whole day school.

It has forms 5 to 10 now– but soon there will be forms 11 to 13 as well.

The former “Rector Bach Hauptschule”

The former “Rector Bach Hauptschule” was introduced in 1969.

The former Erich Kästner Realschule The main school building was built in 1969. Only

two years later the rooms for the special subjects in the school centre with technology rooms, a language lab, a photo lab, rooms for text processing, music rooms, kitchens and the natural science rooms were added.

Teachers, students and buildings

Our school has 944 students, coming from Hermeskeil and the surrounding area.The students are between 10 and 16 years old.

Our school has 66 teachers. Additionally there are 4 advisers for the whole day school programme and 1 social education worker. The teachers all teach 2-3 different subjects.

The school complex is 11.985m², it is organized into different category groups: A B C D E

In our corridors we have lockers where the pupils can keep their books, their sports kits etc.

We also have an aquarium with many fish.

Lessons are from 7:50 am to 1 pm. Whole day school is till 3.45 pm.

Our autumn holidays, winter holidays and Easter holidays are two weeks. The summer holidays are six weeks.

Rooms for Special Subjects

Our school offers the following rooms for special subjects: 5 Computer rooms 7 labs for Biology, Chemistry and Physics 3 Music rooms 3 Technology rooms 4 Gyms for sports

Our school has lots of activities after school.e.g.: band, orchestra, school radio, school

newspaper, dancing lessons and soccer for girls and boys.

Extracurricular activities

School Radio

”Radio Woodstock” was founded in 1990. During breaks important information is

announced by loudspeaker. But students can also send personal

greetings, birthday wishes or ask for their favourite song.

At the moment we don´t have a radio, because of the renovation.

Important Events

Egg - race: Grade 5 and 6 students build vehicles powered by rubber bands or balloons.

School prom : Since 2001 there has been a prom at our school every year. The students from grade

10 have dancing lessons for a whole year.

Participation in educational programmes

Our school takes part in many competitions. So we have already got a lot of awards in language competitions and in technical competitions.

We have a school partnership with a French school and we take part in a Comenius project with 7 partners.

Our school is involved in the education of young teachers and in the education of students from other schools in ICT (ECDL).

Our playground

We have a smile shed. There are lots of games for the breaks for example: balls, unicycles, skipping ropes, table tennis, etc.

When you are hungry, you can buy something to eat and to drink at a little kiosk on the playground.
