NCTHS automotive program among Top 10 in Florida Nature Coast Technical High will send two students to compete in the state finals for automotive programs at Seminole State College in Sanford on April 24. Central High’s nationally-ranked Navy Junior ROTC held its annual Change of Command Ceremony on Friday, April 17. The event featured a speech by Commander Dirk Hebert, awards and drill team performances. Superintendent Lori Romano practices with her partner in preparation for her performance at the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Dancing with the Local Stars fundraiser at Silverthorn County Club on May 16. The event is already sold out and has raised more than $65,000 for NAMI projects. West Hernando Middle students and community stakeholders commemorated Holocaust Remembrance Day on Thursday, April 16. The ceremony took place in WHMS’ commemorative garden which features a Holocaust mosaic consisting of more than 22,000 tiles that were broken, glued and grouted together to form a symbolic image designed by WHMS’ sixth grade students in 2006. Students with special needs and other students at West Hernando Middle teamed up for a basketball game on April 12. Project Unify is an education and sports based strategy powered by an engaged youth community that increases athletic and leadership opportunities for students with and without intellectual disabilities, while creating communities of acceptance for all. Afterward, players and discipline-free students, also known as WHMS’ Band Together students, were treated to a cookout in the school’s courtyard. Weeki Wachee High hosted the Hernando County Chamber of Commerce’s second annual Food Truck Fiesta on Friday, April 17. In addition to a diverse selection of culinary delights, the event featured games and performances by WWHS band and chorus students. A portion of the proceeds will provide grants for local school organizations. Upcoming Events
