Many people wonder what an Elections office does when we are not running an election. Here are some of the projects we are currently working on: Purchase of new voting equipment: I am pleased to announce that the Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the purchase of new voting equipment. Our current voting system is sixteen years old. New parts cannot be purchased and with an important Presidential election cycle coming up, the Board realized the importance of updating with new technology. We have issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to the two vendors who are certified in the State of Florida. There will be a public demonstration of any equipment that will be considered. Once a decision has been made by a review committee, the vendor will install and help facilitate training for staff. This is a huge undertaking and will consume most of our time between now and the next election. We are excited about moving forward with the newest equipment available in Florida. List maintenance: Pursuant to Florida Statute 98.065, the Supervisor of Elections office is mandated to conduct list maintenance on voter registration records. This ensures all records are accurate and up to date. In February, almost 20,000 address confirmation cards were mailed to voters whom we have not heard from in two general election cycles. Through this mailing and subsequent mailings we have moved 618 voters to an inactive status. At any time a voter can be made active again by coming to the polls to vote. Voter outreach and education: We have partnered with the Hernando County Public Library System to offer voter registration drives at the libraries located throughout Hernando County. In addition to the libraries, we conduct weekly outreach at the jury pool as well as local schools. Shirley Anderson Hernando County Supervisor of Elections

Dear Voter,

2015 may be an off-election year, but that has not slowed things

down at the Elections office. Many people wonder what an

Elections office does when we are not running an election. Here are

some of the projects we are currently working on:

Purchase of new voting equipment: I am pleased to announce

that the Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to

approve the purchase of new voting equipment. Our current voting

system is sixteen years old. New parts cannot be purchased and with an important Presidential

election cycle coming up, the Board realized the importance of updating with new technology.

We have issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to the two vendors who are certified in the State

of Florida. There will be a public demonstration of any equipment that will be considered.

Once a decision has been made by a review committee, the vendor will install and help

facilitate training for staff. This is a huge undertaking and will consume most of our time

between now and the next election. We are excited about moving forward with the newest

equipment available in Florida.

List maintenance: Pursuant to Florida Statute 98.065, the Supervisor of Elections office is

mandated to conduct list maintenance on voter registration records. This ensures all records are

accurate and up to date. In February, almost 20,000 address confirmation cards were mailed to

voters whom we have not heard from in two general election cycles. Through this mailing and

subsequent mailings we have moved 618 voters to an inactive status. At any time a voter can

be made active again by coming to the polls to vote.

Voter outreach and education: We have partnered with the Hernando County Public Library

System to offer voter registration drives at the libraries located throughout Hernando County.

In addition to the libraries, we conduct weekly outreach at the jury pool as well as local

schools.

I invite everyone to check out our website at www.hernandovotes.com as we are always

HELP US — HELP YOU CHECK YOUR VOTE BY MAIL STATUS

Did you know that your Vote by Mail request is NOT a permanent request? If you voted by mail in the 2014 Election and did not check the box on the envelope requesting to

continue to Vote by Mail in the next two General Elections, then you will NOT be on the list to receive a

Vote by Mail ballot.

Call our office at 352-754-4125 to sign up for Vote by Mail or to check your status.

LIST MAINTENANCE

Did you get an address confirmation card from us in the mail ?

(see sample below)

Did you respond?

If not, you may have been removed from our voter rolls. Why would that be?? Because you have not been

an active voter for the past four years. How can I remain active?? Either return the card to us with the

correct box checked and updated information (if applicable) or call our office at 352-754-4125.

Is your address up to date?

WHAT’S HAPPENING

AT OUR WAREHOUSE?

Joseph, our Warehouse Coordinator, has been extremely busy at the Warehouse. Even though this is a non-election year, there is always much to do at the warehouse in preparation for an upcoming BUSY Election Year 2016.

717 Voting Booths have been cleaned. 35 Voting Booths that were “unusable” in the 2014 Election have been

repaired. 122 EVID machines have been checked and are in the process of being

repaired. Creating new boxes to carry precinct signs. Moved and reorganized record storage to a larger room within the

warehouse.

In the first quarter of 2015, three schools came to our main office in

Brooksville to take a tour and learn first hand about the election process .

Best Academy, Gulf Coast Academy, and students from a local home school

group enjoyed the tour. They were also given an opportunity to “Vote” on a

ballot that was actually an educational quiz relating to voting. Their “votes”

were cast and the results were given to them after their tour.
