Thisprogrammeisdesignedtogiveyoutheopportunitytodevelopexperimental,creativeandtechnicalskillstoaprofessionallevel.Itteachesyouthedesignandprototypingofconsumerproducts,furniture,jewellery,interiorandexteriorenvironmentsandmodels.Usingarangeoftechniquesincludingcomputer-aideddesignandmodelmakingskills,youwillexplorethepropertiesofmaterialsandprocesses.
Year 1 modules – Semester AWork Based Learning: Developing Professional and Employability SkillsThismodulewillhelpyoutofocusonplanningyourcareeranddevelopingemployabilityandprofessionalskills.Youwilltakeacloserlookatthecreativeandculturesectortoidentifyaroutethatbestsuitsandreflectsyourstrengthsandpreferenceswhilstpreparingyouforprogressionbylookingatjob-huntingtechniques,networkingandself-promotion.Youwillarticulateyourskillsandknowledgetocreateanactionplanforprogressionusingappropriatewritingskills.
Historical and Contemporary ContextThismodulewilldevelopyourcreative,culturalandcriticalunderstandingofThreeDimensionalDesignandthecreativeworkitcanproduce.Youwillbeintroducedtoseveralhistoricalandcontemporaryperiodsormovementsandexamineandidentifythewaysinwhichthetime,placeandconditionsoftheirproductioninfluencedandshapedcreativityandpractice.Thiswillenableyoutodevelopyourresearchabilities,criticalfacultiesandacademicskillssothatyoucaninvestigate,analyseandpresentyourcaseeffectively.
Creative Problem SolvingThismodulehasbeendesignedtoprepareyouforfurtherstudyandtheworkplace.YouwillgainanunderstandingofthekeyproductionprocessesandprofessionalpracticesrelevanttoThreeDimensionalDesignandtheculturalandcreativeindustries,inadditiontolearningmethodsofconceptualisingcreativityandauthorship.

Entry requirements120points,includingoneGCEA2,aBTECNationalDiploma/Certificateorequivalent.PlusGCSEgradeCoraboveinEnglishlanguageandgradeDinMathsorequivalent.Youwillnormallybeaskedtoattendaninterviewwithaportfolioofwork.
MaturestudentswithGCSEgradeCoraboveEnglishlanguageandmathsorequivalent,butlackingtraditionallevel3qualificationswillbeconsideredonthebasisofrelevantexperienceandanappropriateportfolioofwork.
IfEnglishisnotyourfirstlanguage,youwillneedanIELTSscoreof6.0or80IBTorequivalent.

Year 1 modules – Semester BCreative LanguagesThismoduleisallaboutcreativityinaction.Youwillinvestigateseveralwell-knownpractitionersinthefieldofThreeDimensionalDesign,concentratingontheirexpressivelanguagesandcomparingthemwitheachother.Youwillrelatethemtoyourownideasandproduceabodyofyourownworkreadytobeincorporatedintoprojectworkinothermodules.
Creative Vocational Practice: Three Dimensional DesignThispracticalmodulefocusesonbuildingarangeofprofessionalcreativeskillsanddevelopmentof3Dconsumerproductsthroughpracticallybasedworkshopsactivities.Areascoveredwillinclude:•Technicaldrawingtechniques•ComputerAidedDesign•Creativeuseofmediaandmaterials•Thepracticeinandsafeuseofmachineand handtools•Modelmakingandprototypes

Year 2 modules – Semester AWork Based Learning: Professional PracticeInthismoduleyouwillworkwithanemployer/clientonaprojectthatmeetstheirneedswhilstallowingyoutoexpressanddevelopyourprofessionalskillsandunderstanding.Theprojectwillbenegotiatedandmaybecarriedoutontheemployer’spremisesbutthiswillbedependentonthetypeofprojectagreed.
Contextual StudiesThismoduleprovidesanintroductiontocontemporarycriticalperspectivesinthetheoryandpracticeofthecreativeartstoprovideaframeofreferenceforThreeDimensionalDesign.Throughtheexaminationofcreativepracticeswithinavarietyofhistorical,socio-political,aestheticandinstitutionalcontextsyouwilllearnthebasisforcriticalexaminationinpractice.
Portfolio Development:Three Dimensional DesignFocusingonyourchosenThreeDimensionalDesignspecialismsyouwillnowdeepenyourskillswhilstbuildinganddevelopingyourportfolioofworkforprogressiontoemploymentorfurtherstudyinThreeDimensionalDesign.Thismaybeinanareayouarefocusingonoryoumaychoosetobroadenyourexperiencewithanideaofyourown.Portfolioswillconsistofasinglelargeprojectoranumberofsmallerprojectswhichrespondtoemployerneedsasappropriate.
Year 2 modules – Semester BCultural and Ethical DebateThismodulewillcoverthemebasedexplorationsoftheinfluencesthatshapecreativemessagesinarangeofcontexts.Youwilldevelopawarenessofhowsocialandculturalconstructsareformed,evolve,andarechallengedandusedtoinfluencefuturedevelopmentsconsideringissuessuchas:consumptionglobalization,sustainability,race,genderdiversityandtheroleofstereotypes.
Final Major Project:Three Dimensional DesignThismoduleprovidestheopportunityforyoutoputallyourexperienceandlearningtogetherinonefinalprojectthatconfirmsyouasacreativeprofessionalinThreeDimensionalDesign.Throughanagreedbriefyouwillarticulateacompletedesignprocessfromidentificationofneedtorealisationandpresentation.Youwillinvestigateandemployavarietyofplatformstopromotebothyourfinalpieceofworkandyourselfasanemployableprofessional.
