Subheadings are red and capitalised. The font is also bigger than the text underneath them, which makes them more eye-catching. The subheadings ‘ health and beauty’, ‘your life’, ‘food and drink’ etc., helps to categorise the information on stories and articles in the magazine into clear sections. The subheadings also help the magazine to relate to the lifestyle genre, and shows readers that it can provide them with relevant info to improve how they live. Contents information is also split into 3 columns which makes it clearer to read, and allows the reader to differentiate between the different sections.

Bleedlines- the blank space surrounding the article acts as a margin which keeps the information and images in line, it also stops the page from looking overcrowded, and to look uniform without spreading out too far to the ends of the page.

Website link- Use of synergy, allows reader to further engage with the company and find out more/purchase issues of the magazine. It also shows that the Hertfordshire life brand are using modern technology to advertise their product which would appeal to tech savvy readers.

Feature image- is placed at the top of the page, and more towards the centre, acting as a focal point. So this is the first thing readers will see. It displays Victoria Pendleton holding her Olympic medals in her strictly dance outfit, which is what people will most recognise her for. This image shows Victoria as optimistic and with a smiling facial expression. This will make reader’s want to read about her and maybe aspire to be like her. The use of direct address also engages the reader, and will make them want to read about her. It is the largest image on the contents page, and it relates to the use of Victoria on the front cover, showing that the issue’s main story will be about her. The page number stands out on the image in a white rectangle, in black font. This implies that the magazine is recommending that readers should turn to this page specifically first, to find out about their main story. The other images on the page are smaller, but the fact that they have been visually represented shows that they are significant to the issue and that the reader should check them out. They are the main highlights of the magazine.

A savings code has been featured so that if readers act and purchase the offer they save money and get a good deal. Readers will be encouraged to do this, as the seasonal context implies that the offer is limited so they have to act now. A separate website address is provided so that readers can solely subscribe to the magazine and nothing else.

Heading: ‘Silver, Strictly, and settling down’. Is black, which makes it stand out on the white background. It is placed above the article and under the image of Victoria with her medals (‘silver’). The words ‘settling down’ are slightly larger than the rest of the text seen in the heading which draws attention, and suggests that the act of settling is significant to Victoria. Sibilance (repetition of S sound) and alliteration has been used as language devices, that make the heading more catchy and memorable.

Drop capital- ‘V’ is larger and bolder than the surrounding text which will draw readers to the beginning of the article. It also helps to separate the article from the images. Main body text of the article is

separated into 3 columns which makes it clearer to read. This also follows the conventional magazine layout for an interview format. The gutter lines allow the information to be sectioned. The black text stands out on the white background.

‘INTERVIEW VICTORIA PENDLETON’ is at the top of the page, and is capitalised, which draws attention. Readers will know to expect an interview, and not a narrative article. It explains the article is an interview, and that the information in it is taken from an article that would have been with Victoria.

Main image – fills most of the right side of the spread, and shows an action shot of Victoria in strictly come dancing. This creates a sense of excitement, and will intrigue the reader to read on. At the side of the image, there is a little arrow indicating that the article will continue on the next page when turned over. Also shows that the magazine isn’t too text heavy, and prefers to feature images.

Pull quote- ‘with strictly…’ is white which makes it stand out on the main image, It also co-ordinates with the background. The use of the pull quote shows that this is information that has been said from Victoria herself, this makes readers feel that they are more personally connected with her, and are discovering exclusive things that she would generally divulge. It also gives more context to the article, and shows that it is an interview.

Issue date and page number- is placed at the bottom of both of the pages, it allows readers to know when the issue was released, and what page number they are on, which will be helpful if they are looking for a specific article with a certain page number. It is capitalised which draws attention.
