Many of ou m hve see recet egtive publicit surroudig ver smll umber

of veterir prctices i the UK. While this will turll rise cocers d questios

for the cliets of those fetured, these prctices re i ti miorit.

Nevertheless, at Churchview we recognise that our own clients may want reassurance about

the topics highlighted and we welcome the opportunity to discuss any questions that you may

have at any time. One of the key issues raised regularly within the veterinary industry is the potential exploita-

tion of insured patients. In the current economic climate where money is tight, it has never been

more important to consider the benets of pet insurance particularly as with todays advances in

veterinary medicine, we as vets can often do more for your pet than ever before.

Sometimes, however this can be expensive, particularly if your pet requires long term, or spe-

cialist treatment. Unfortunately, some veterinary practices may have seen this as an opportunity

to over treat animals, sometimes running expensive diagnostic tests just because an animal

is insured. We would like to reassure you that at Churchview vets, we offer the same options of

tests/treatments for all of our clients, regardless of whether they are insured or not.

Diagnostic testing is an area fraught with difculties in decision making. Not least because often

the only way to nd out the value of a test is to carry it out. Of course if

we knew the result in advance there would be no point in doing the test!

So, naturally, clients who are insured have more nancial freedom to

pursue further investigations, however we would never knowingly carry

out any unnecessary treatment or tests and always involve our clients in the decision making process.

Our vets will always discuss the options with you so that you are fully aware of the possible lines of treatment and costs

so that you can make a considered decision, based on your own nancial constraints.

Another area of concern raised through the media is that of untrained staff carrying out procedures on animals. This will

naturally cause alarm bells to ring with clients and again at Churchview we can reassure you that we pride ourselves on

our well trained and experienced veterinary and nursing teams.

As in every area of health care, both human and veterinary, we are governed very strictly to ensure that our staff are only

carrying out tasks which they are trained and competent in. While our Veterinary Nurses are legally allowed to carry out a

small number of surgical procedures, all of our surgery at Churchview is only carried out by fully trained & qualied vets.Nurses will naturally play an active role in the care of your pet while it is under our care and you can feel assured that they

are experienced and competent in all pre and post surgical procedures and carry these out on a daily basis.

At Churchview, we aim to exceed our customers expectations and this is often substantiated

by the number of thank you cards and letters that we receive. I hope that this has put your mind

at rest, however if you do have any questions or concerns, please let us know, so that we can

address them for you. At Churchview Vets, we have an open door policy and are happy for

clients to ask any questions that they may have.

WELL DONE to Heswall Rotary Club members

who, despite their mature youth succeeded in the

gruelling Three Peaks Challenge. Weve got the story

of how they made it on page 4.

Heswall Sea Scouts are back in the water after they

raised enough money for a new boat following the

    theft of their old one.

Preparations are under way for the big reunion of

Heswall Methodist Youth Club. Weve got some old

pictures which are probably quite cringeworthy for

    many!

We also have the normal features: books from

Linghams of Heswall, gardening, health and beauty,

a whats on guide and business directory.

Now is the time t take cntrl f

Heres a summary to help you improve your personalnances.1. rack every penny you spend. Tis is the best way

to become conscious o how money actually comes andgoes in your lie as opposed to how you think it does. Tisstep makes the biggest impact. It doesnt matter how youtrack your spending. Te most important thing is to doit. Whichever method you choose, stick with it. Make it ahabit. Dont udge the numbers.2. Develop a budget. Ater youve tracked your spendingor a ew weeks, use the data to develop a budget. Budget-ing is one thing that sets the wealthy apart rom the rest ous 55% o millionaires keep a budget.*Tis provides aroadmap or your money.3. Start an emergency und / get out o debtFor years too many o us have spent everything weve

earned. Tis works OK until something goes wrong andsomething always goes wrong whether its the car or the

washing machine. ypically weve nanced such emergen-cies with credit cards. So open a savings account and add20 - 50 to your account every time you get paid. Ateryouve saved 1000, then you can attack your debt.I you are struggling under a heavy debt make it a priority

to repay this burden. It eels antastic to have that weight ofyour shoulders. I you have the mental discipline, youll savemoney by paying down your high-interest debt rst.4. Spend less than you earn. I youve started on step 3

then your on the way to achieving this goal. Tis is the un-damental money skill. Its common sense, yet many people

never learn do it. Only by spending less than you earn canyou hope to build wealthEven i you do nothing else in this list, spending less than

you earn can put you ahead o your peers.5. Start planning or the uture. Tis is your chance to

dream a little. Tink what youd really like to achieve, abulous holiday, more hobbies etc. Use your new oundnancial discipline to start unding or a better uture. ake

advantage o tax ree savings and investments and put somemoney away or the medium term. Money makes money.6. Seek the help o a nancial planner. Knowledge is

power. Personal nance doesnt have to be a mystery butsupport rom an Adviser can help you achieve more arquicker. Tey can help you structure your nances or yourneeds, get a better balance and save you money. Being incontrol and having someone guide you has to be the bestcombination to nancial wealth and health.7. Final words. aking control o your nances can be

intimidating but it doesnt have to be that way. Designateone specic date as your personal money day. Use this timeto get the basics right and review it with your adviser. Youllnot only save money but youll save masses o time and

worry.Best wishes or a more prosperous worry ree uture!I you dont have an ongoing relationship with a nancial

    AUGUST BLOOMSGARDeNING By JANeT HeATH

AUGUST can be a difcult month to nd

fresh owers and foliage. This year the

dry sprig ad early summer has stressed

may plats.S if yu want clur in August, try perennials

such as the red hot pokers (Knipoa) in red

yellw r range clurs. They range in size

from about 18 inches to 5 feet tall depending

n the variety and will withstand a ht summer.

Phlox are also in ower at this time of year

with scented white, red or pink owers on tall

    stems.

I wuld als cut back the stems n perennials

that have nished owering such as Catmint(Nepeta), Perennial Cornower (Centaura

mntana) and perennial geraniums. Yu ften

nd that with some rain, the plants will produce

new growth and a second ush of owers in

    autumn.

Pts f plants can start t lk a bit tired s

cnsider smething different, maybe a single

grass such as Acrus. As yu can see frm

the phtgraph, a well grwn grass plant will

lk very striking in a pt and nt need muchattentin ther than watering frm time t time.

If you have a shrub that owered in spring,

think about planting a summer owering

clematis t grw thrugh it fr clur later in

year. Clematis Perle d Azur has large blueowers in July and August and is happy

scrambling thrugh a shrub. Cut it back t

abut 2ft in late winter r early spring and it

will grw back each year. Clematis Viticella

varieties are rbust plants fr summer

owering on growth made this year. So prune

back t 2ft in winter r spring. Varieties such as

Huldine (white) r Etile Vilette (purple) are

    readily available.

Keep vegetables well watered and give thema gd saking nce r twice a week rather

than a little bit f water every day. I prefer t

water plants by watering can s I knw that

each plant will get a measured amunt f

water and that it will sink dwn int the sil

t the rts. Tmates and curgettes will

get a can per plant. Net cabbages and ther

brassicas to prevent cabbage white butteries

frm laying eggs n the leaves.
