KEYNOTE ADDRESSES

• Don’t Let the No Hopes Win is a powerful keynote address that includes music and will provide attendees with tools to help them celebrate their work, team and corporate climate. This session, delivered by Jeff Eben, will make you laugh, cry and reflect.

Jeff is a 30 year veteran of public education. His successful career has been marked by teaching and leadership successes in California and Wisconsin. In 2007, he was named Deputy Mayor of the city of Fresno, California, and used his unique leadership philosophy in government and community affairs. He is the author of three books about winning, and he has traveled the world telling his story and sharing his experience.

Sponsored by Kaufman Hall

• “Financial Implications: The Push from Inpatient to Outpatient Care” The shift from inpatient to outpatient care, which has been partly driven by payers across the financial continuum, aims to reduce healthcare costs associated with expensive inpatient admissions and to provide safe, efficient care in the most cost-effective setting. The degree of financial impact from this shift in care delivery structure will vary from organization to organization, however all organizations will be affected.

This is a panel discussion featuring Jerry Birk, Rideout Health; Theresa Frei, Sutter Medical Foundation; Tim Maurice, UC Davis Medical Center; and Richard SooHoo, Sutter Medical Center Sacramento

Sponsored by Parallon

• Communication Power is a fun and interesting session led by Jeff Johnson, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at Hawes Financial Group.

The truth is that we all communicate non-stop throughout our day. In fact, we are so comfortable with our own style of communication that we often take for granted that those around us understand what we are saying. This unwise con!dence daily creates the barriers that impede individuals, companies, even countries from succeeding. In fact, the key factor causing con#icts between individuals, organizations and even countries usually stems back to poor communication. Learn the key reasons why communication fails (learn to avoid the pitfalls).

T-F1/T-RC1: How Can Finance Better Serve Routine and Strategic Needs of Physicians? The healthcare landscape continues to change. Community based physician practices are !nding it harder to stay in business alone, hospital margins continue to shrink, industry consolidation has accelerated and payment reform continues. The exchange of ideas with others who are facing the same decisions, whether ahead of us or behind us on this path, can help to assuage anxiety and generate solutions.

T-F2: Using Navigators to Improve Population HealthThis session examines patient navigator programs and how they can improve population health. We will review two case studies that highlight operational considerations, !nancial implications and health outcomes.

T-MC1: Clarifying the Two Midnight RuleCMS has delayed the two midnight rule multiple times. These delays have caused hospitals and providers to navigate through unclear processes, and struggle to stay in compliance. The presentation will provide attendees with an understanding and clari!cation of the two midnight rule, and be offered examples on what organizations have done to meet the rule to stay in compliance. This session also aims to provide the latest updates on RAC/MAC.

T-MC2: ICD-10 Status CheckWith much politicking about ICD-10, the time is right to receive an update on the status of implementation. With possibly six months to go, it will be important to reassess and determine if there are any pieces missing in your preparations.

T-MC3: Medi-Cal Cost Report Audits and Appeals Many think Medi-Cal cost reports now have less revenue impact under APR-DRGs. But impacts can be big for DNFs, RHCs/FQHCs and acute outliers. In this session, learn useful strategies for conducting successful appeals (very different from the Medicare process!).

T-ACHE1: Palliative Care - Advancing Quality and Improving CostsAs part of the continuum of care, the palliative care model incorporates a multi-disciplinary approach that includes health professionals and family members to focus on the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients. Palliative care encourages a radical shift from traditional delivery of prolonged, unnecessary medical treatment to providing patients with care centered on quality of life. This program will address palliative care, and its impact on the quality and cost issues central to healthcare reform.
