As a result of rising cost of oils,
increasing environmental
regulations, liability and disposal
cost, and new stringent vacuum
requirements for manufactures
warranties to .4 Torr @ 48hours, it
is no longer economical to replace
electrical insulating oils with new
fluid. Instead, proper treatment of
these fluids with our proven Hi-Vac
Series renews dielectric strength
and lowers residual water content
by restoring oils to their original
strength through vacuum
dehydration & purification.
Improvement of the entire insulating
media of power transformers is
obtainable with our HHV series High
Vacuum (Hi-Vac) Oil Purifier. Our design meets the operational,
economic, and environmental needs of industry and maintains the quality
of insulating oils at the time of initial impregnation, filling at the factory,
and maintains the same quality in field operation.
Our proven Hi-Vac provides reportable dehydration, degasification, and
filtration techniques that remove even trace amounts of water to less than
5PPM and gases to less than 0.25%. An easy to read flow chart is
provided on the electric panel and is superimposed over all switches,
buttons, and indicating/warning lights. Our Hi-Vac can be used as
stationary units or manufactured within a variety of trailer configurations
to be completely portable or self contained.

Cold Trap Oil Wetness Determination Under Transformer Blank Off Conditions
888-910-7543
www.HENEKMFG.com
During certain phases of transformer restoration it is of critical importance that
as much moisture as possible be removed from its internal sections. This
phase is called the “dry out” phase. The task is accomplished by attaching the
transformer to a vacuum pump/blower system at the auxiliary connection.
Functionality
When all leaks on the transformer are sealed to the lowest possible point,
vacuum can be pulled on the transformer internals. This is normally the area
of ½ to 1 torr (1/2 – 1 micron), the only flow that may enter the vacuum pump
must come from the transformer and pass through the cold trap. Any water in
the transformer will turn to a vapor (steam) under these low vacuum conditions
and freeze as it passes in the cold trap (temperature -80°F to -40°F). It should
also be noted that any other liquid contaminants in the transformer that can
boil at temperatures equal to or below water may also vaporize and pass
through the vacuum system and finally return to a liquid state and move into
the atmosphere or the vacuum pump oil.
When charged with liquid nitrogen and nitrogen gas, the cold trap is self
contained. It is electrically and pneumatically controlled by a single
temperature sensing device on the chiller side and is automated to reduce
liquid nitrogen consumption during the chilling
operation.
To thaw the collected water for measurement, the
cold trap is equipped with a hot water/glycol
solution tank that is heated by a manually activated
emersion heater. When activated, the heater
increases the temperature of the glycol solution to
a preset point before it cuts out and recycles. The
glycol tank is equipped with a circulating pump that
can be turned on manually to distribute the hot
glycol throughout the heating coils (approximately
170°F). The ice is thawed and contained in the cold trap until it can be
measured.
