2 October 2008 Hi Times Issue 1 Vol. 100 Colorguard, Winter- guard, soft- ball, polka dots, Twi- light books, Chicago Cubs, hanging out with friends, watching movies, adding new quotes to Facebook, ice tea and funky guard uniforms are just a few ways to describe Katelynn Weathers. Melanie Beres is a junior who likes writ- ing, running, spending time with friends and family, summer, being on the lake, lattes from Rocky Mountain, That 70’s Show, banana pop- sicles, Forever 21, fun necklaces and bright colors. She is also in cross country, track, GR, student council and PSI. Amanda Pravecek is a seventeen year old junior that loves to rock out to music and play games with her friends. Her life consists of school, working at Little Caesar’s, church and singing in her youth group’s band. Her favorite quotes from movies such as Spaceballs and Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which makes her laugh everytime. This teenager is all her own, and enjoys life in a dif- ferent way. Erin Sass is a junior. She is a night owl and loves late-night car rides. Tan- ning and music are her therapy. She may have an obsession with Chris Brown. She is a V.I.P. at Hacienda and enjoys talking to strangers! She loves life and you can almost always catch her laughing or smiling. She believes in miracles and wishing on stars. There’s no true way that he could depict himself in words alone, but he has to, so yeah; this is Israel. He’s sixteen and lives in LP. He doesn’t real- ly find himself categorized or in a specific group. He loves peeps and his Nintendo 64 is his baby. He joined the newspaper to try something new. He’s pretty ecstatic most of the time and loves spontaneity. Techno and Electro are Israel’s life. Music plays a big role in his crazy little world. He finds it fun to meet new people. Emilie Kleding Rasmussen, junior, is an exchange student from Denmark. She loves being in America, and has so much fun here. She likes playing soccer, drinking tea, eating donuts, being with friends and going shopping for all the cheap American clothes. Laura Rosen- baum, junior, believes life is full of crazy things and crazy people and it’s great being one of them. She enjoys Starbucks, her overflow- ing bookshelf, and her Fall Out Boy CDs. In a perfect world, she’d live in Italy and eat lots of chocolate gelato. Natalie Pritz, a junior, loves laugh- ing so hard that she can’t breathe. She is obsessed with chapstick and Diet Coke. Nata- lie enjoys thunderstorms and hopes to one day marry Adam Sandler. Samantha Holifield, or Sopho- more Sam as she’s known in news- paper, loves hanging out with Cassy and Laura. She is The Assistant! Sam enjoys being on the poms team and has a slight obsession with HSM, Mickey Mouse and Perry the Platypus. Tell her something exciting and she’s liable to break out in the happy dance. Angela Shelby, a senior at LPHS, en- joys taking pictures, paint- balling and writing stories. She is one of the captains of the girls track team, of which, she runs the 100 Meter and 300 Meter hurdles. She plans on attending Ball State University next year to major in Architectural Design. Cassy Swanson, age 17, is a country girl best known for her blonde hair, loud mouth, pink car, intelligence and awesome advice. She has the most amazing friends ever, and enough drama to last a lifetime. She loves long talks, gossip, boys, late nights and spending time with the people who matter. Kait Carlos is a senior who gets a kick out of Queen, whale crackers, talking in ac- cents, the movie Say Anything, quoting The Office, and Slip N Slides. With no current direc- tion as to what she should do after graduation, Kait’s seriously considering moving to Hawaii and camping out on the Beach. Junior Heather Mead is a lover of vid- eo games in the making. Whenever she is not practicing for color guard, she enjoys reading a Jodi Picoult, Beverly Lewis or Ted Decker book, listening to Christian rock and spending time with friends. She also loves watching crime shows including Joan of Arcadia and enjoying nature. Tough defender for the soccer team who loves music, art, writ- ing, and boyfriend Josh, she stands by the ones she loves in whatever they do. For fun she likes to be crazy with all her girls. Her biggest pet peeve is people who talk about something they don’t know. Buy her lilies and she will love you forever. Jamie Kasinger is just a country rocker from LaPorte. Zach Magley, se- nior enjoys staring out at the night sky. He enjoys long boring conversations. He pre- fers Appalachian American over Hillbilly. He is full of useless knowledge. He doesn’t mind being made fun of or singing in the shower and loves to sleep. He enjoys walking to nowhere and uncomfortable silences. Shelbi Smith is a 17 year old junior. She enjoys go- ing to ath- letic events, playing softball and spending time with her family. She works at Gar- wood’s Orchard in the summer and fall. Her dad is her hero. Listening to music and being with her friends are two things that she uses to deal with stress. Her name is Tara. She likes drinking coffee and listening to music. She loves snow and has a passion for traveling. Emily Bahus loves night driv- ing, snack foods, the summer, Sex and the City, sleep- ing and going to concerts. She can’t stand cocky people. She’s perfectly content when she’s around the important people in her life. Matt Reed loves to roller- blade and listens to his sweet music. He once killed a Zombie. His most favorite thing to do is going to the Super Wal-Mart and play- ing tag. Discovered in the Swiss Alps at age four, and still over eight feet tall, John Decker was labeled as a child prodigy from the start. He was able to master vertex equations at age five. Even though he’s never read a book, he knows all the informa- tion in the history of mankind; he has counted to infinity twice. Mightier than Zeus and Thor combined, this is the ultimate being. Emily Jor- genson’s a junior who relies on map quest and probably couldn’t find her way out of a wet paper bag. She enjoys the club, hang- ing with friends and her morn- ing cup of joe. Emily hates her job, but can’t seem to give up her T-Bell paycheck. Samantha Spoljoric is finally a senior and is ready to make this year its best yet. She has decided to put the past behind her and move on to better and greater things. She loves cheerlead- ing, babysitting, hanging with her friends and doing locker decorations. Her favorite class is newspaper, and her favorite teachers are Mr. Sheagly and Mr. Messacar. Meet the Hi-Times Staff October News Briefs Stage Crew Stage Crew is gearing up for the fall play. Oct. 16 to discuss Shadow Diver's Thurs., Nov. 13 to discuss Twilight Tues., Dec. 16 to discuss The Adoration of Jenna Fox If you're a reader or someone in need of another credit, come to the library and find out about the Novels course. It is the easiest way to earn one high school credit and you never have to step into a classroom to do it. Like to read and want to earn a chance at some great prizes? Then, the Rosie Rewards program is for you. Just read 7 books from those nominated for the Eliot Rosewater award for 2008-2009, take a short quiz on each book and when you finish, your name will be entered into a drawing for great prizes! Many scholarships and other opportunities for Seniors are posted there throughout the year. Seniors: Now is the time to apply for college! Seniors need to bring their completed college applications (or on-line application tran- script request forms) to their senior counselor. Counselors recom- mend doing this well before Thanksgiving. Photography Club and LPHS Art Classes Both recently participated in the Annual Sunflower Fair Art Exhibit at the Rumely Apartment Building.
