Introduction

Biological classification, or scientific classification in biology, is a method of scientific taxonomy used to group and categorize organisms into groups such as genus or species. These groups are known as taxon.

Biologist such as Ernst Haeckel, Robert Whittaker and Carl Woese have tried to classify all living organisms into broad categories called kingdoms.

Kingdom

• Kingdom is the largest unit of biological classification.

• In the animal kingdom, the term phylum is used instead of division , in the plant kingdom.

It is the basic unit of classification. Members of a species can breed with one another, and on growing up, the young ones look very much like the parents. No two species in a genus have the same scientific name
